My husband and I always try to give good reviews as we try to be reasonable and fair. We have been patrons of El Tepeyac Restaurant in Redlands for a quite sometime. Unfortunately, our last few visits we started noticing the food quality declining. This time we visit for lunch and we order the usual starters. Received a strawberry margarita that was water down and a piña colada that was also watered down, a pico de gallo that had more onions than anything else, a guacamole that look like it was poured out of a bag - flavorless without the tomatoes, onions, cilantro, lime juice or salt. I’m talking just plain tasteless and boring. We order a shrimp cocktail and it was just ok. Now every time I order food I’m always making sure they don’t add anything spicy at all (my husband and I aren’t able to eat anything with chili do to medical reason and I’m always making sure to let them know). When we order the Molcajete El Tepeyac, it was fully loaded with a soup that looks like enchilada or tapatío sauce! It was so spicy that went the waitress put it on the table it smells so strong to the point I felt the chili in my throat! We couldn’t eat it! We try only eating the stuff that was hanging over the molcajete and even that was so horrible to the point we didn’t even want to continue forcing ourselves to eat this. We didn’t even wanted to take it home. We pay $45 dollars for something that it was honestly disgusting. In total we spent $156.55 for food that was below mediocre. We have try molcajetes before and we never experienced anything like this ever! If we would have eaten this we most definitely would have a bad indigestion. We left hungry and very disappointed to the point that we don’t see ourselves returning...
Read moreWe arrived at 5:22 pm thinking we’d be out by 6:30 pm. Now I know it’s a restaurant but as soon as we walking in we noticed it was NOT super busy or overwhelming and one waitress sat us down right away. It wasn’t until like 15 minutes later when they finally offered us something to drink (which was just water) and when the lady brought our waters I politely inquired “Can we order already?”. All the lady said was “ok” and walked away. Another waitress finally came to take our order 15 minutes after we had already asked. In the meantime while we waited for our order (asada fries & wet burrito) no one came by to offer us more water, to check if we wanted more chips & salsa, or to simply update us about our food. Finally at around 6:10 pm (50 minutes after arriving) I told the lady to just give us our food to go. She went to the back for a few minutes and came back out saying “you’re food is actually ready already, do you still want it to go?”. Which I still said yes bc my boyfriend had to be at work already. I guarantee if I hadn’t asked about taking our food to go she probably would’ve let it sit back there for another 10-15 minutes. I understand it’s a restaurant but it shouldn’t take 30 minutes just to order your food. The atmosphere also seemed very off and unsettling almost creepy. Idk never going back there...
Read moreHit the Spot! After spending the day in the San Bernardino mountains playing in the snow...my friends and I wanted mexican food to round out the best day ever. We google searched the area and this was the first place that came up. Some of my family is from Redlands and I couldn't remember this place from my own experience but had the names of a few others in the area. We decided to go here based on closest location and a gut feeling. I am so glad we did! The food was excellent, the staff was patient and kind and our service was great. Portions were large, prices fair and good authentic choices. It is a small place with a few booths and tables. We had a large party of ten and they accommodated us quickly though there were plenty of patrons We had a party with 5 special needs people and our servers didn't bat an eye. They treated everyone with respect, took their orders patiently and treated us like every other table. We truly appreciate that. The food was delicious...I was so full when I left. I had a large bowl of soup but it was big and came with rice and tortillas. Plus, I sampled everyone else's because mine was so good! It was my friends birthday and we brought in our own giant 3 Kings Cake and they stored it for us while we ate. It was a wonderful time....
