My fiance and I have been inspired by the World Market aesthetic and made countless trips to the store planning our wedding and future home.
At the end of last year, I lost my engagement ring during a bizarre set of circumstances which included visiting World Market during the hidden scavenger hunt.
The store was called immediately, but it was difficult to reach someone; the first person I spoke with hung up while I tried to explain my situation. Finally, there was a kind hearted employee that checked and let me know my ring had not been found. We returned to the store to look around for it but no luck.
A few days later, I returned for an update and was told that the area in which my ring was expected to have gone missing had increased security surveillance dude to prevalent theft. I requested footage of the specific time and location to narrow my search but was curtly denied by who I'm assuming was a regional supervisor. I requested for them to take my information, but they didn't ask for my name, which I feel was unprofessional and made it seem like they were not intending to update me had the ring been found. I felt like the rest of my interactions with World Market associates were condescending and it added insult to the already upsetting circumstances. The only person who was nice about it, even in person, was the one who I had spoken with on the phone the day the ring went missing.
I have since stopped shopping at World Market because I did not appreciate the untactful way in which I was treated. It would be awful to shop there again and find myself in a situation where I'm left with another bad experience.
In contrast, we stopped by Bob’s Discount Furniture and Mattress Store while retracing my steps and even though it was unlikely that my ring would have been there, several employees helped me search for it around the store as well as offering advice. How would you like to be treated if you lost something of irreplaceable...

During the holiday season of 2020 - in an attempt to minimize the impact of COVID-19 on their store workers - the World Market online store provided a 20% off discount to people who ordered same-day pickup rather than shopping in-store. This provided the best of both worlds as it allowed stores to continue to support their local workers while minimizing risk.
This store screwed that up.
Instead of fulfilling orders as they came in, they chose to fulfill orders at the end of day after many of the products ordered online were already sold off to people in-store. Keep in mind - people had already purchased those products that they then were selling again.
My son had been looking for a gift for his sister for a while and finally found exactly what he was looking for and made the purchase online. We waited all day for the purchase to be processed and ended up having to wait until the next day for any kind of response. Unfortunately, the response was that they canceled his order because - lo and behold - they had run out of...
