I signed up my daughter last year to take classes from Ascend Martial Arts after they came to her school for a Bully prevention class. She loved it instantly and can not get enough. Watching her progress and have fun in class sparked my own interest to get back into the arts and take class with her myself. I haven’t done any sports or training for 20yrs and being 360lbs didn’t help. Ascend has help me get my life back. After being here a year I have lost 100lbs and currently at 260lbs. I get to spend time with my daughter and train to lose weight and gain mobility that I lost. They are very patient and supportive in my journey and they push me towards progress. I want to live longer and be healthier, they keep us accountable and disciplined. This is truly a community, one that helps you when you are down and lifts you up to achieve the goals you don’t think you can reach. My daughter has learned about leadership, accountability, unity, discipline, and inner strength. She is really loving the difficult challenges presented and then explodes with joy when she can figured out how to do the moves correctly. We work together and I love spending time with my family. As of now I was also able to get my wife and son to join and train with us! We are apart of Team Ascend and we couldn’t be happier. My kids love training with weapons and flips on the air mat. My wife loves the leadership classes and Pilates on Saturdays. I am truly amazed by what they have created and I feel apart of a community that actually cares about each other. Alone we go fast, together we can go farther. I can’t wait until my family is ready to try for their black belts tests possibly by 2025. I have been a student of Ascend Martial Arts for 10 years. I started as an older adult student, which has been one of the most extraordinary experiences of my life. This is the kind of experience that literally gives you something you didn’t know you needed. Ascend Martial Arts creates champions, regardless of your age, as in my story. I could go on and on about how I embedded new family members into my heart, but I will stick to the review that a stranger would be interested in. I raised children and am a grandparent. Cancino's Black Belt Academy is not like any other martial arts school that I know. I have been doing martial arts at this school for two years now, and more to come, but I absolutely enjoy my time here. The students learn so much by the instructors and I extremely like how it is really on our pace that we move up in rank. Everyone from the students to the people watching during the classes are going really meet great people and become really close to everyone. The school is like another big extended family to everyone. I would also like to include that, for me being involved and active with ATA Cancino's Black Belt Academy, there are opportunities for the students who are still in school to be themselves and get benefits for school which is offered by the American Taekwondo Associations. I received a scholarship for college because of being affiliated with the school and ATA. This school really has it's benefits for all ages.
