This review is for the players who don’t yet have a friend group that also plays Magic and are looking for a spot to play.
This location sucks for open play and even its event nights. This is mostly due to the amount of players who do come to this location to play, come to play with their friends, not you. There is nothing wrong with that. Though, It makes it that much harder for single players, like myself, to get in and join the fun. This could be detrimental to the overall health of the store, where they seem to only retain players who take their table space, bouncing out people who aren’t in the clique, causing a situation where you never have new potential players and even buyers come through or stick around. The store COULD combat this by having nights where they actually pair up players through the MTG Companion app, but they don’t.
I remember my first time coming to this store. I brought my wife with me, who was in the throes of learning the game, to play a Pre-Release event; Innistrad Remastered. There were barely any players who showed up, and the ones who did were either rude, or just poor sports. The event was poorly run by the staff. They had other events going on in the store simultaneously, a mix between Warhammer and DnD. The space was so tight, loud, and just uncomfortable to the point where my wife wasn’t not interested in continuing playing the game based off of one experience.
Now, I know not everything can be perfect. We’re all human. I came back alone on a different night to try and give the store a second chance. It was a commander event night. Again, no organization, no structure. I was fortunate enough to show up and find a pod of new players who were also looking to play. In the middle of our match, the store employees ask us to move and compact our space even tighter than it already was to accommodate more players who were showing up. Clearly these players were friendly with the store and thus get some sort of special treatment. It was not only rude but straight bizarre to just expect people to stop playing in the middle of an event match to completely move several seats away from where the game was taking place. This opened up quite a bit of uncomfortable chaos for everyone, some players were in control of other players cards, certain board states where set up a specific way, and not to mention the possibility of mix ups and cheating. Let alone in the mix of chaos, potential misplaced property, or theft. I spent about 5 minutes recovering my stuff and lost a few cards in the process, which I eventually found. Undue stress.
I survived it, not the end of the world, not a big deal. So I gave this store one more chance. Another commander night, which I saw was advertised as Dragonstorm themed, the newest set at the time of this review. I showed up on time, the advertised time was 5PM. Players clearly already had games going, but there were definitely players who did not have a game fired. I approached these players and asked to join in. Each one gave me the run around of “oh we’re waiting for people to show up”. No big deal, I get it, you want to play with your friends and that’s the environment that the store facilitates. I did not however feel like the environment was for me, and it wasn’t very welcoming. I’m a normal dude, with a normal life, and try to be level headed about everything. Three times this store showed me that it’s just not the place for me.
I am a single player, looking to play Magic. I’m not the core customer, player or attendant this store seeks to serve. You...
Read moreBooks. Board games. Tabletop games. Trading card games. Tabletop miantures. Nick nacks, action figures, dice. An extensive Pop! Vinyl figure selection. And it goes without saying, comic books. Comic Kindom has a wide variety of all sorts of geeky items for sale, and even hosts various tounaments and tabletop sessions almost daily. You are even welcome to bring your own various games and casual play at one of their many tables. From starwars x-wing to Magic the Gathering, this establishment welcomes players of all sorts of gaming, even including some in the area of Dungeons and Dragons. They even have drinks and snacks available for purchase if you need to fuel up. As far as their comicbook selection, they pretty much have it all. And if they don't, theres always a chance that the more than helpful staff will look it up to see if they can order it for you. All the most recent comics come through the store, getting new ones in as their released. In addition, they carring plently of older books and ones you have never heard of, including bargain bins and grab bags to start building a collection for cheap, although sets/collections of newer ones can run as much as $100 or more.
I highly recommend this establishment for vetrans and newcomers alike, even if you're simply trying to find out where to start or would like to get involved in the tabletop...
Read moreIt's a tragedy the owners/the men behind the register act like men children. They have zero customer service and won't bother to explain things to younger kids who want to learn about comics and the games that they sell in the store. Zero customer service. My son was asking questions like what items he would need to play the game and they seemed bothered to explain what he would need. I spent over $200 on items and I'm still not sure we have what we need to play. Items are overpriced, the building is old and musty, the items are dusty like they've been sitting on shelves for years. My youngest son bought a Batman figure that had gum in it and the gum was old. Instead of helping their customers the owners sit in the middle of the store and play like grown men children. Not much of a selection very limited items not a lot of Marvel/DC figures or anything that would attract younger buyers. There was some models painted by the register my son was looking at them and the man behind the register said "not for sale". Instead of coming to interact and showing him what he needed to paint his own. Okay, we were just looking we didn't ask if they were for sale. They did not have bags so we carried $200 of items in our arms to our car. I would not come here again because bottom line poor customer service. I would only come if my son specifically...
