A huge shoutout to Store Manager Vikki and the exceptional team at 5.11 Richfield! The knowledge and customer service they provide are unmatched. Whether it’s gear recommendations, proper fitting, or in-depth product insights, their expertise ensures you walk out with exactly what you need.
As an armed security guard, having reliable gear is non-negotiable. Over time, I’ve used various brands, ferro concepts, Patagonia, beyond clothing, Crye precision. But 5.11 Tactical continues to stand out for its durability, functionality, and overall performance and price. Two standout pieces of equipment I’ve relied on are the Maverick Battle Belt and the AT suede duty Boots, both of which have proven their worth in demanding conditions.
Maverick Battle Belt – Secure, Comfortable, and Built for Action The Maverick Battle Belt has been a game-changer in my everyday operations. Its ergonomic design allows for a secure, snug fit that stays in place even during high-movement scenarios. I’ve experienced multiple physical altercations while wearing this belt, and it has consistently held up, keeping my firearm, magazines, cuffs and other essential gear firmly in place without shifting or loosening. The quick-release buckle is a significant advantage, offering both security and convenience when gearing up or adjusting between work sites.
What sets this belt apart is its balance of rigidity and flexibility—strong enough to support the weight of a full-duty setup but comfortable enough for extended hours on end. After an 18 hour day I am able to take it off and have zero hip pain or issues. Even after rigorous use, there are no noticeable fraying, cracks, or weak points, making it a worthwhile investment for anyone in armed security or law enforcement.
AT Terrain Suede Boots – Unshakable in Harsh Conditions Minnesota’s weather throws everything at you—heat, rain, ice, and deep snow—but these boots have withstood it all. From icy sidewalks to muddy job sites, the AT Terrain Boots provide excellent traction, keeping me stable in unpredictable environments. The waterproofing is effective, and the design makes them easy to put on and take off without sacrificing a secure fit.
The only real sign of wear has been cosmetic—the original color has faded over time, but the structural integrity of the boots remains untouched. No sole separation, no compromised stitching, and no significant loss of support even after countless hours on duty. For anyone working in security, law enforcement, or emergency response in extreme conditions, these boots are a solid choice.
5.11 gear consistently delivers on its promise of durability and functionality. The Maverick Battle Belt and AT Boots have both proven their resilience under intense conditions, making them must-haves for armed security guards, Law enforcement or first responders alike. If you need reliable equipment that can handle physical altercations and extreme weather without fail, 5.11 Tactical is a brand...
Read moreThis company has good products but terrible customer service! I had my eye on a certain pair of pants for a wedding, when I came to purchase them, was told they were out of stock and discontinued, which was disappointing, but took the sales associate's suggestion on another pair of pants for $85, less than a couple weeks later they were on sale for $25 and the pants I wanted were back in stock, not discontinued which I had a full length conversation with the associate that they were for sure discontinued and why. After that I made a purchase of 6+ items online, all based off two items that I wanted and grabbed the others on whim, but after a week they cancelled the 2 items I actually wanted, saying they sold out and didn't have enough stock and oversold! I asked to cancel the entire order, but without an absolute shred of customer service, they ignored my email and sent the remaining order anyway. I waited awhile and when those two items came back in stock I ordered only those two items this time. Again, after I had made the order, paid and waited, they emailed me saying that they over sold the items, and cancelled my order, maybe retaliation for sending an email asking for the discount when the item came back in stock and expressing my discontent with the cancelled order (pure speculation but seems very coincidental that I ordered as soon as their website said the items were back in stock and still got my ordered cancelled/refunded). So in my experience the products are good, but I've had misinformed in-person customer service, in-person suggestions on full priced items without the information that in a few days it will be drastically discounted, back-to-back cancelled orders, and a blanket non-response from emailed customer service in inquiries about both cancelling my order after they cancelled my items, and about getting the item once its back in stock at the discount that I purchased them at. So if you're willing to roll the dice on online orders and get partially what you order, and ignored about your order if you ask questions, or willing to have in-person customer service give you misinformation about the products they sell and the company they work for, or give suggestions for paying full price on items that will soon be drastically discounted, than you might get some decent products, emphasis on might. Humorously they seem to act like their target market, police officers; a (hopefully) small group of partially ignorant representatives, making misinformed claims, which make the whole company look bad. And a (hopefully) small group of electronic representation that wont respond to criticism and instead ignore any requests or questions that you have and do what they want regardless of the individual. I hope this review helps, so if you do decide to gamble and use their customer service, either in-person and online, you'll have very low expectations so won't be...
Read moreThe store is a great addition to the Twin Cities. Places like Streicher's and Uniforms Unlimited (now Gall's) have been ordering the 5.11 brand for years and now they have decided to sell direct with a brick and mortar store.
The store is nice. You get to see all of the stuff you would normally want to check out first if you were looking online. The store itself is in a busy area of Richfield right off of 494 and Lyndale. So it's kind of a PITA to get in and out of. ProTip: Go early and on a weekday and have your coffee with you.
The staff? Well, I'm 50/50 for help there in the two times I've gone in. In letting them know what kind of holster I was looking for, and for one of their bags you would figure they would know what side the velcro was going to be on to making a draw possible. They did not. So I got home with the holster and went to install it in the bag and it was a fail.
Take it back and there was a slight suggestion that they shouldn't have to take it back because there was nothing wrong. So I asked for the opposite holster to make the draw possible. Because they were out they refunded me the money.
It's not a bad place (everything I have ever bought from 5.11 has been good and I'm sure with a little training the employees will do great.
I've seen comments about 5.11 being a place that survivalists and weekend warriors would love. Well that's not an entirely wrong statement. With that said, there are plenty of LE, EMS and Military that will love this place, not to mention people who work at the airport for some items.
I rate for 3 stars. Prices are fine (let's face it everything is always 75% higher than we think it should be) I can live with it. The location for me is the brutal part. The parking lot and traffic are enough to make me want to stay away. And as a taller and bigger person (yeah I own it) the only thing I can buy are the boots, which are awesome,...
