UPDATED AUGUST 2025: BEST BIKE EVER Feeling depressed, and realized why. I had fallen out of love with my 14 year old carbon fiber Trek Madone. The solution: A new bike! Spoke with cyclist friends, and one said, "Talk to John." Walked into Cosmic Wheel. Handed John, the owner, a Post-it with my specs: steel frame, disc brakes, Di2 shifters. John and Craig looked at the list and said, "Susan, we think you want titanium!" "Oh, yeah!" I replied. John turned the building of the bike and component selection over to Craig. Every step of the way, Craig consulted me on what he was buying next. In each case, he went for the best in price and quality, not necessarily the most expensive or biggest name. The best handlebars for comfortable positions in my small size were on order for months, and ride season was approaching. Craig found rubber add-ons from Red Shift that he tightly wrapped with Red Shift handlebar tape, giving me many comfortable hand positions. The titanium gravel frame from Lynskey was a relative bargain. The comfy seat is Selle SMP TRK. Most other components are carbon fiber. The result a bike that is a dream to ride, being stable and comfortable, with a great fit. For miles and miles, I appreciatively marvel, "I love my bike!" Thank you, Craig, John, and the fellows at Cosmic Wheel, for my best bike ever!
PREVIOUS REVIEW:
Thanks John and Craig for the great work both of you did on my bike last summer. Making the derailleur to work to the best of its ability was a huge and amazing improvement. The gel handle bar tape without a doubt offers more cushioning than I thought possible. Programming my odometer after putting in a new battery (thanks, Craig) was done with outstanding skill. During a 5-day tour of the Adirondacks and Lake Champlain, the odometer reading almost always matched the cue sheet, a rare experience. And the Continental Grand Prix 4 Season tires! While riding on familiar bumpy roads, I felt the softness of the ride, yet they are supple enough to feel the surface. Given John's advice, I have confidence in these tires, which has changed my riding. Cycling out of Lake Placid in August, the 5-mile downhill was a blast. While the road surface and grade were excellent, the sense of freedom in feeling confident to ride as fast as my bike could go was exhilarating, made possible by trusting the Conti's and all the work you both did to put my bike in top condition. Then, back in New Jersey, just when I thought my Trek Madone couldn’t perform any better, you installed a Wolf Tooth Road Link. Now the Ultegra derailleur drops the chain where I want it in the wide range cassette even smoother than ever. You guys must be in the forefront of having inventive bicycle solutions. Great merchandise in your shop, too! Connecticut friends complimented me on my Sugoi shorts. I love my Cannondale Blaze winter cycling gloves. The new Endura skull cap kept me warm on a frigid ride. Thanks...
Read more2015 Update -- Just took my bike back to the shop to have Craig add Campy EPS and Carbon Rims to my Synapse HI-MOD. To say the install was complex is an understatement -- that being said Craig really took his time and made sure each and every piece was done absolutely right -- the level of concern and professionalism shown for my install was unreal -- I heard that when he was in the middle of install the Cannondale rep stopped by and was completely blown away by our little project!
Needless to say -- bike rides like a dream and i could not be happier -- Kudos to Craig and the team on another job well done you guys are the best -- I am a customer for life!
If life is a Journey -- make sure John and his crew are there to guide and assist you.
When you first enter TCW -- you may think that you are entering another random bike store where the people behind the counter ask the same typical question(s) -- and offer the same typical advice
Take a moment to take in your surroundings -- listen to the people around you and you will quickly realize that you are not in just any bike store and that the employees who are greeting you are not just typical repair mechanics -- realize that you have entered into a zen like place -- a place where the questions being asked, advice being dispensed and items being sold are much much deeper than what they superficially appear to be --
when approached by the zen master -- realize that what he really wants to know is -- what do you want from your life -- how do you want your bike to be an extension of your inner being -- how can I help you achieve your goals -- are you ready to MOVE
if you are honest with the zen master -- he will not only fit you with a bike you will love to ride -- he will make sure that it is an extension of your inner soul --
and what will he charge for this service -- for transmitting this sagely advice -- you will be floored when you finally receive his final bill -- is that all you will say -- but how is that possible -- to which he will respond with kind eyes and a gentle smile -- but of course my grasshopper -- enjoy the ride -- enjoy life and do not worry-- i can assure you the charges are all correct --
While the logo for TCW maybe an alien -- the message is clear -- if you want to find out of this world service and advice -- you don't need a space ship -- just ride over to TCW -- i assure you you will not be...
Read moreSeveral years have gone by and I've now recommended EVERYONE to go here and have made friends with most of the employees from my frequent visits. Honest folk doing honest work. They continue to serve each and every customer to the fullest (even if they don't deserve it sometimes haha). Kids, disabled, old, young, rich, poor, doesn't matter. MTB, BMX, Gravel, Electric, Wheelie machines, tandems, bicycle trailers, carbon, aluminum, titanium, steel, it DOESN'T MATTER JUST BRING IT HERE.
And it has paid off as they've had to add another work station to handle all the work they're getting. I've had all three of my bikes serviced or upgraded there in some way or another (and I'm building a 4th with them now). Hard tail specialized diverge, pinarello f8, state single speed. All have come back better than when I left them.
The kids love this place since there isn't a lot of the snobbery that they get when they venture into some of the other bike shops I've been to. You know they do good work when people will happily wait outside in the cold weather due to the covid policy. I've seen some kids ride for hours to come buy stuff here. Cannot speak highly enough of these guys. I'm now building a custom titanium bike with them and can't wait to see how it turns out.
P.S. Craig is in my humble opinion the best bike master (not mechanic, not builder, but MASTER) I've ever met. Guy handles everything I throw at him (and trust me I'm crazy when it comes to my bikes) with aplomb. #1 Bicycle ARTISAN around in my humble opinion.
Original Review: Went there the other day to have my single speed fixed. Guys were super helpful, explained why it happened and recommended upgrades to prevent it. Already recommended the place to a friend and he's heading there now. Sometimes you have to be patient if they get a bunch of customers at once because they make sure every customer is taken care of fully but it is worth the wait. My kinda bike shop. Highly...
