Virginia S. Tillett Community Center — Local services in Roanoke Island

This has been a great place, not known by many perhaps but its not just a place just for Dare Counties retirees, but a place for all Dare County locals.. a awesome workout gym, ( if your over 16years of age..) its as equipped and just as nice as The YMCA, or any gym on the beach.. if you are older there is group trips regularly to places most wouldn't be able to do or afford alone.. from overseas, to beautiful places across the United States..to give kudos to the staff and the volunteers isn't sufficient. They offer meals to shut ins" they did have meals inside daily until the Covid began.. they help you with taxes, filing for social security, Medicare.. they give at Christmas every year bags of toys to children in our Country, not a pair of socks, and a break easy toy, but bags that are full of toys age appropriate, boy & girl. They will shop for shut ins, help our disabled.. arrange rides when needed..I know more is done by this staff and volunteers that goes beyond this..The work they do for our locals is wonderful and they definitely do not get the appreciation and thanks they deserve. The Director Sandy Pace is probably the hardest working, selfless and most giving person I've met, and goes above and beyond to keep all running for this center. To the entire staff " thank you" keep up the great work. *(And a reminder, with the Covid virus, the center isn't open to freely go in and out, so call for appointments or with any questions..there still open, but with restrictions, until things change with the virus. I was in Manteo waiting for my ride and had a few hours to spend so I went to the Community Center and I was very impressed. The staff was super friendly and got me registered quickly. The facilities are clean and new: they have a room full of pool tables, a nicely equipped gym and a very comfortable library where I charged my phone and read my book while in a very comfortable leather chair. Staff was very disrespectful when I walked in because I didn’t have a mask, I am fully vaccinated and I hoped I could use a mask from the box for the guest and it was empty so a lady from the desk area decided to start yelling and me and wouldn’t stop following me when I was in the parking lot waiting to leave, I don’t understand how such a terrible employee could work there and not be helpful and and try to solve solutions but instead...
