I loved this store, always visit when I'm here and have brought friends and family members here and always recommend that it's a must visit. I actually drove about an hour 50 minutes away just to come to the store today to pick up an item. I was highly disappointed! My significant other ordered an item online to be picked up in store. He got a confirmation stating it would be ready for pick up by 10am next day. I drove all the way out there to get it to only be told they do not have it in the store! I was shocked and had asked why I was not aware of this sooner. I was then told with a bobbing of this lady's head that she "just" went back to look for it and it's not there, so they don't have it. "Just", it was after 5pm! I again asked her why it took so long for them to collect the item to be picked up in the first place. She got louder with me and off putting. I understand you may be busy and so on, but for me not to be notified being the order was placed yesterday and for the confirmation telling me it would be ready by 10am and you just now found out the item is not in store just baffles me! I did not appreciate the bobbing of the head and the off putting attitude of this so called manager lady, when I kept asking her why this was not done sooner. She kept raising her voice which led me to raise mine. I was utterly pissed at this point driving all the way out here not to have what was ordered. I also asked her about the refund of the product and she then raises her voice and says it will be done tomorrow as the banks are closed now. I was so stunned by that answer. Then she goes on to say that the person who does refunds is not here and will be tomorrow. SO WHICH IS IT LADY? She then proceeded to tell me if ime not happy, that I can just leave! UNACCEPTABLE! We go there every time we visit our daughter in North Carolina. It's beyond description. The building appears to be an old house (or something in it's previous life) and has been added on to. This not only makes it completely charming but the series of small to medium rooms (and nooks and crannies) seems to prevent visual overload for me. Shopping isn't a favorite pastime of mine, partly because of often being overwhelmed...this store doesn't have that effect. It's very well organized and always neat. Even on Thanksgiving weekend.

The staff is outstanding. We found a section of scouting ornaments but they only had 1 Eagle Scout ornament left (they also had Life Scout, Tenderfoot and the other ranks). Since both our sons are Eagle Scouts (yes, we're very proud) we needed 2. The cashier literally had a clerk check the back, just in case, but no worries because they were re-ordered with one to be set aside and picked up by my daughter.

Some other themes: Dogs, cats, birds vehicles, camping, surfing, mermaids, Star Trek, Star Wars, sports (in general, pro teams, college teams...), Hannah Barbera, Betty Boop, Nightmare Before Christmas and hundreds (maybe thousands) more.

If you can't find something that sparks a memory of someone, something, somewhere or sometime, you probably have amnesia. THIS PLACE...

The Christmas Shop & General Store in Manteo is pure enchantment from the moment you walk in. It is not just a store; it is a holiday adventure wrapped in twinkling lights. The themed rooms seem endless with nautical ornaments, nostalgic TV corners, and a dedicated Grinch section that absolutely delighted my toddler. She could not get enough of the playful decorations, bright colors, and mischievous touches straight out of Whoville. It quickly became her favorite part of the store.

Local artistry shines here, especially with the hand painted shells. Each one is a tiny piece of Outer Banks magic you will not find anywhere else. When you need a break from the ornament overload, head to the back for their licorice (seriously, it is to die for) and pick up some local coffee to take home. The wine section is another hidden gem along with the local dip mixes, perfect for rounding out a gift haul.
