Our party of 6 went for a Monday lunch. It is a casual screen-in porch type of seating, but very comfortable. The smoke house is located right next to the restaurant. Many of the customers appeared to be locals (in police uniform or construction work clothes), which is a good sign.
The gentleman who took our orders was very knowledgeable and good at explaining how the food was prepared. The kitchen staff could be seen working hard across the see-through windows. Even though there was a consistent line of 2 to 8 people waiting to order during our visit, the orders came out reasonably fast.
I had the pulled pork sandwich. The tender slow-cooked pork was shredded and chopped (not chunky), just the way I like it. The distinct smoke flavor and the light spice were right on and the coleslaw gave just enough acidity to cut through the meat. My wife was equally impressed with the pulled chicken sandwich. It was explained to us that the pulled chicken was cooked in the same smoke house, with a shorter cook time. I saw a few customers added sauce (available in bottles at the counter) to their meal. None of us did that. The sandwich served as is was perfect.
Others in my party ordered fried flounder sandwich, chicken tenders, fries and mac and cheese. All were happy with their meals. Since there were three 16-year old boys in the group, we added 2 more orders of chicken tenders (light batter on the outside and tender on the inside), and they were gobbled up in a few minutes.
Keep up the good work,...
Read more25 January 2018 - Good BBQ, and can get a decent meal for $10 or less. They have two sauces, "Carolina" and "Yankee". Both are good, I'm a fan of the Yankee though. I like how this place is NOT a sit down restaurant. Definitely need more places like this in the area!
29 August 2018 - Have been here several times now. My only dislike so far has been their beef brisket sandwich. The flavor was like beef jerky. It wasn't bad, but definitely not what I'm used to. Also, it was almost $10 just for the sandwich, which was a pretty small serving in my opinion. Most other places in the area have a brisket sandwich for around $6 of similar size. So, other than that their other BBQ is great. Also, they have some of the best service around, so that definitely counts for something. Oh, check their hours before you come. Seems like during the week they're only open for lunch, roughly 11:00 - 15:00.
21 October 2019 - Made the mistake of not referencing my own review, ha. Had the brisket sandwich again. It's downright awful. Everything else on their menu is good, but man, their brisket is unlike any other brisket I've had (in a bad way) in the area or otherwise. Definitely skip it! Over cooked, weird flavor, and expensive ($10 to...
Read moreMy wife and I stopped here looking for some good barbecue after our aquarium visit. The reviews sounded pretty glowing so we stopped in. Note: This week held one of the worst wind storms I've experienced in my entire life, I was surprised when we walked in that the patio wasn't enclosed it was pretty cold and blustery. Not their fault we stayed to eat, but would have been a better take out day. We said hell with it, the locals can do it so can we. The staff greeted us warmly and were very friendly. We got two of the pork barbecue plates with hush puppies and two sides. The pork barbecue was very good, carolina style naturally with just the right amount of smoke. The coleslaw you could tell was made there and was perfect with the barbecue. The hush puppies were good, light not too greasy. For sides we tried the baked beans, green beans and Mac and cheese. The baked beans were good but were not great. The grean beans again were little better than some of the good canned products you can buy. The mac and cheese again was very reminiscent of the frozen stouffers stuff my mom served us as a kid. Not a bad experience but was not the mind blowing bbq knockout we wanted to end...
