We recently used Knights Menswear for our guys in the wedding party. Our wedding involved multiple party members who never came to the store due to living out of state. Those who sent in their measurements and received their suits in the mail and did their own alterations back with their home tailors had no problems. The problems arose when it came to having tailoring done thru Knights Menswear and the guys who picked up their suits at the store.
One groomsmen had the following issues: Alterations were "done" yet it still fit terribly and so he brought it back to the downtown location because that was the only open location on Sunday. They charged him again for alterations, which the Menswear location admitted to me that he shouldn't have been charged again, but it was "probably because who was working". They called me that next Monday saying it was already done and I should have no issues because "a ton of work" was done to it. When he tried it on after these second "alterations" the chalk marks were still on the jacket (which we have photo proof of) and the suit was honestly not even touched. We said forget it and he ended up having his suit altered for a THIRD time in Chicago, paying $150, needing to pay a rush fee since it was a week before our wedding. Luckily, he did get the money back for the "alterations" done at Knights, with an email saying "nothing like this has ever happened before." He was also not originally given a shirt and we had to make another trip back to get it.
My dad had the following issues: he was never given a vest with the suit and they claimed it was the "shipper's" issue. When I called and asked for a size 42 vest they physically gave my husband (not knowing what size I had requested) a size 44 and I had to go back and exchange it for the 42. They had also told me a date that the suit would be ready for pick up because he had suspender buttons added and when i arrived to get it, it was still not done.
In addition, we were never notified when suits were in and had to call ourselves to ask what the deal was.
Overall, the concept of the store providing the same suit in multiple colors for wedding party's is great. However, the execution by management is lacking. Ordering suits should not have been an area of stress for us during the wedding planning process, however it became stressful and time consuming with the lack of communication and constant trips back and forth to the store. Right now it is unfortunate that there is not a more reliable option in Rochester for wedding party suits.
Currently, I heard from another wedding party that they were offered $10 off of every suit if they leave a 5 star review, because they have been getting bad reviews from honest customers. This review is not meant to be malicious, but I want to give other brides and grooms a recap of our experience. Hopefully the store can learn from...
Read moreTerrible experience, had a pre-scheduled appointment, and was met with incredibly rude behavior from the staff. Rude body language and comments was made, I wish I asked for his name so I could put him on blast. Do not recommend.
Based on their response let this be a warning to future customers
My review stands as is, this was a terrible experience. My fiancé and I booked an appointment online since we were prompted to do so by the website. We needed help with color suggestions to figure out a style and c olor combination that would feel right for our day. We go there a little early, looked around, and then walked up to the counter to check in for the appointment. The employee directed us back to a bench where there was another customer being assisted so we patiently waited for further instructions. The employee that sent us back there started to get visibly frustrated that they had double booked the time slot. When another employee told him it was just going to be one suit for me, he then brought us back to the front of the store with two rows of different colored suits hanging. We told him we weren’t sure what the process was for looking at suits and being fitted and was looking for any kind of guidance on what’s supposed to be his expertise. His tone and body language made us feel like we were inconveniencing him and told us it’s not his job to decide on what colors and styles we should do. So we asked if I could try on some jackets to test out some color options. He then measured my neck and arm length without telling me any dimensions, got an under shirt for me to use and pulled out 3 different suit coats. He then spoke down to us because we didn’t know the difference between an Italian cut, tux and the other two he pulled off the rack. He was clearly disinterested as he made us feel like we were stupid for not knowing what kind of suit or color pattern we wanted and then decided to take a phone call while in the middle of working with us. We told him we’re trying to figure out what looks good and that I was planning on losing some weight and gaining muscle in the shoulders and chest and was wondering when the right time to purchase one would be or how we should go about getting fitted. The employee scoffed, laughed to himself, and said “OK”. We soon left after trying on 3 different coats because we both felt unwelcome and belittled.
Showed up excited and optimistic and left feeling belittled and disrespected. That...
Read moreThis was truly an awful experience for every single one of the seven of us who ordered suits for a wedding.
They didn't order my suit when I paid until I followed up with a call a week later. Then they ordered the wrong size. Then they didn't order the correct size until I called again a week later asking where it was. Then they didn't ship it to me until I called a few days later asking where it was and told him I was ready to do a chargeback on my card.
When my suit finally arrived, there was no tie and pocket square in the box like there should have been. The person at the store was also wrong all along about my sleeve length. He insisted my tailor should be able to take out the sleeves to fit, but that wasn't the case.
Then the shirt was wrong. In fact, everyone's shirts were wrong. Literally every single one of us had a different style of shirt in a varying shade of white. Even another groomsman, who is the same size as me in neck, body and sleeve, had a completely different shirt from me with a different shade of white.
I'm not the only person who had issues getting their suit in, either. They even screwed up the groom's suit a couple times, and a couple other groomsmen had issues similar to mine.
To top it all off, they just didn't order anyone the vests that we paid for. They couldn't find the vest in a certain size for one of the groomsmen, so they just didn't order any them, and didn't tell any of us. They insisted they either refunded everyone or didn't charge us in the first place, but when I reminded them that at least one other person and I paid the full predetermined amount, they told me they would get that refunded to me. I had to call and ask for a refund three times for it to come through, and even that took two weeks.
I am all about keeping money with locally-owned small businesses, but if one can go to Macy's or something of the sort and find a competing suit for cheaper without the hassle, the smaller businesses need to set themselves apart with their customer service and attention to detail. That was not at all the case with Knight's Menswear.
Go to Mestad's or any of the other suit shops in the area. Just stay away...
