UPDATE: THIS COSTCO STILL ROCKS
I don't have too, but I would go WAY out of my way to shop at this Costco. For me it simply comes down to check out efficiency. In a age where it seems that retail is trying to extend the check out process, i.e. Kohl's, who's the worst. The staff at this Costco are like the Dream Team of check out professionals. With out compromising politeness and courtesy. There's an African American lady who's always dressed beautifully, dresses like Eddie Murphy's mom in Coming to America...get in her line, she's a pleasure and she's a scan and chat rockstar. I always feel better about my day and more cheerful after interacting with her. She's a blessing. Get in her line first, she's the Michael Jordan of this Dream Team.
Then there's the Jack of all trades, he's a white male that's tall with short hair and usually a lil scruff. He's gotta be in his late 20's, anyways, he's not always on check out. I've seen em collect carts, stock shelves and clear the garbag cans. But if you see this kid on Check out get in his line ! Even if he's backed up with a longer line he's got you. He's pretty quiet but still pleasant to chat with. Just give him room and let em' work and you'll be home in no time.
There's also the guy who tucks his polo into his jeans, so you already know he's a white guy. He's about 5' 8", 5' 9", he's fit like a runner. He'll also have a walkie in his belt and he's getn a little light on top but wears it well. He's basically the John Stockton of the check out game. His style ain't pretty and not a lot of flash, but he gets the job DONE SON. I've seen him scan and load simultaneously like a boss.
Lastly there's the lady with the Von Dutch / Affliction jeans, you know the ones with the bedazzled back pockets. She's not usually Checking anyone out but you'll see she lingers and the bagging ends of a few isles. Go to one of those isles because wherever she is that line moves real fast and she seems to brings overt positivity to the...
Read moreThe rudest staff I've ever seen and that's saying something. I was going to get gas from their for the first time and pulled in and had an employee run out into the parking lot while i was stopped and ran out in front of my truck yelling at me. I've never been their before in my life but i thought i would try it out. It was kind of funny because i had no clue what he was freaking out about but he looked like he wanted to fight with me screaming. I seriously considered getting out and pinching him, even if i were doing something wrong the implication of violence would possibly get me to hurt him. I thought better of it and rolled down my window and asked if he wanted something and he said "are you stupid You're going the wrong way?". I literally just pulled in and didn't see any signs and theirs traffic all over. I wound up their because in the jam of traffic i was blocking an old woman so i made room by turning and she politely waved thanking me only to have some parking lot super cop scream and talk trash to me like i just trespassed into his territory and this is gang land. I'm considering driving through that way blatantly on purpose in the future. After his screaming ride rant i said to him "this is great customer service you got here, I'm definitely not buying gas here" and he yelled good and stood in my way until i told him to get out of my way. That seriously infuriated me and I'm having trouble not going back and hurting that guy. I show everyone respect and deal with a lot of people's mistakes at work but would never ever act like that and my boss would fire anyone for being like that and were not even customer service. The only reason i will ever return to Costco is to drive through the gas station the wrong way and I'm considering recruiting friends to do it because that's not how you treat customers that's how you...
Read moreToday I shopped at this Costco and was highly disappointed by my trip. I typically shop at the Costco in Madison Heights and have no issues, but thought I'd make the trip since my local Costco didn't have the Limoncello Almonds on stock. The greeters at this location have carded me at this location EVERY SINGLE TIME I've been here - all while ignoring everyone else walking through the door. I lost my patience this time and called them out on it and was told it's due to "theft" that they're doing it. Apparently I must look like a thief? I wonder who else looks like a thief to them? I watched at least 10 others walk through the door without being carded until someone else came over and angrily said "this is policy", then yelled at the next person coming in to show their membership card. The guy literally said "Fine, but you don't need to yell at me" before she realized how absurd they were being.
As someone who's worked in fraud prevention, I can tell you that the technique they are using will not prevent theft and makes for a horrible customer experience. A greeter's job is to welcome people to your store and guide them - not inconvenience them and make them feel unwelcome. They easily could've made a general statement like "Welcome to Costco - are you already a member?". If someone says no, it's an educational opportunity to make them one. If they say yes, you can pitch them help. Theft is stopped on the way OUT in the vast majority of cases. It wasn't lost on me that the very same person who intervened when I came in was checking my receipt as I left - and spent a good minute reviewing all the things in my cart because I must look like a thief. I'd love to talk to someone in corporate about this to find out why this location is so hostile. Sounds like they're having some theft issues and don't know how to properly...
