The owner John is very knowledgeable and extremely customer focused. When you think back to the days of yore, when you had your local unique music store. You could hit it up anytime and there was always some local music savant that would guide you to some great unknown album you'd never heard about. Those interactions that would ignite a passion for a previously unknown artist, collaboration or super group, perhaps it was some b sides rarity, or even an import. That same nostalgic feeling could be had right here at this very location. I'd say if you're into Houston Rap, Funk, Rock, Hip-Hop, Country, Jazz and practically everythingand anything in between then this is your place to go. RSD releases always stocked up. Come give your cash to a local vendor and take home a new record, tape or clothing. That's right ladies and gentlemen this man has everything you'd need to get your night going. Literally you could snag a record player, incense, new album, a mixtape, some shorts a t-shirt, a wallet, a fresh new Piranha Records slip mat, a drink a used video game, Blu-ray disk and a bumper sticker and a Funko Pop figure. Fresh, local, knowledgeable, great customer service, faster than Amazon prime or the internet because at this easily accessible location you get to take it home immediately cash or cards neither is a problem! Speaking of Amazon and internet did you know John's got an eBay store too? #bestaround...
Read moreSitting in the parking lot writing this and it's funny because I'm not the only person that expierenced the rudeness of the Owner that's bald and has a gray long beard. Went to ask him a question about an album, and if they were expecting to get it, and the way he talked back to me was very condescending, and rude. Rolled his eyes at me. Not friendly it all, and lacked customer service big time. The way he talked down to me, being a young woman as well, not okay it all. Had a horrible attitude. Not a great way to treat your customers when asking a question about records...thats what your shop is....a record store. Expect questions. This record shop has been here forever, and growing up here in RR, ive been going here for 20 years now to get my records..so i hate that there is one person there ruining this record shops vibe. There was a young man with glasses that did help also and he was friendly at least. Honestly, I won't be back. Especially with a shop that has a owner that is disgustingly rude. Not going to support a business that treats their customers like that. Clearly this man is a problem, hence the 4+ negative reviews about him specifically.. even up to...
Read moreFrom the perspective of both a customer and at one time an employee (no longer) Piranha Records conducts itself with integrity in both situations.
The owner hires high quality people who know their music and have a genuine passion for it. The owner brings in a wide variety of eclectic oddities and cool products along with a healthy range of music across just about every media form you can think of and oddly some vintage games as well.
If you're looking for a vinyl they'll be happy to help you find it or in failing that they are happy to procure it for you. There are stations across the store to listen to vinyls (understandably not the new ones) and hidden gems in multiple areas.
They also have a rewards program that allows you to get a dollar off your purchase on your next visit for spending a certain amount in store.
Support local business and help keep places like this in town to preserve the city and states history and to keep stakeholders and employees at this business in this city to preserve the charm.
(Also any reviewers bad mouthing John; shame on you, be respectful of him and his store and I promise you'll never encounter anything other then...
