UPDATE 08/2020 - Now a 2-star rating: The owner - she has been very nice to me. My visits have been great when it's only JUST her working in the store. Pleasant shopping experience. This store sells more southeastern Asian products (Vietnamese, Thai, etc) than the other 'Asian Market' next door (they focus more on Chinese products).
HOWEVER, when the older woman (possibly the owner's mother) or the white guy is also at the store, they FOLLOW YOU AROUND. Watching to see if I'm going to steal?? Really?? How uncomfortable and sad. Do they get robbed that often that they feel the need to do that? They would either be slowly walking around the store like they're security guards or standing right behind an aisle watching you. I obviously knew they were watching me but I pretended to not notice. Here are some examples: I was in the middle aisle deciding which Thai curry paste I wanted to buy. I see the older woman around the corner of the aisle watching me (I see her head poking out a bit, but I pretended not to notice). I obviously didn't like that so I decided to scare her off by turning my head really fast and immediately wave up to her face and she went running off hiding. Another time I literally just walked into the store and turned into the back aisle where the dried noodles/instant noodles are and the white guy walks up to me asking if I knew what I was coming in for. I said just looking around....and he goes "well you should know what you're here for". Really???? You don't want customers to spend money at the store even without an exact list of what I want to buy? I was there because I was craving for Asian snacks, but ok. I did end up buying something that visit. I needed to pick up some dried noodles and some sauces and as soon as I walked into the store I head straight down to the back of the store where the sauces are placed. Then I go to the back aisle to pick the noodles. Then I see the white guy walking around real slow like he's a security guard. Then as I make my way towards the cash register at the front of the store I see him starring at me from far away. So I starred at him back for a good few seconds. I don't understand what his issue is?
I have more than enough money to buy what I want at this store. If you have so much distrust, just invest in security cameras - I'd rather be watched on camera than have an actual person spying on me behind an aisle.
I just want to say that I've NEVER experienced being watched at when I'm at the other bigger 'Asian Market' next door. I am more relaxed shopping there because no one's spying on me! As much as I want to support Vietnamese owned businesses, this is unacceptable. 'Asian Market' will be my primary Asian grocery store in this area, as well as making the drive down to metro Detroit/Madison Heights to Kim Nhung Superfood for my...
Read moreSelection has gotten better but kind of pricey and they still like to follow you around the store. Yes, I can see you guys doing it, please stop! That's why I'll just take my business to HMart in Troy and other Asian stores down south that don't follow around brown people. You can definitely tell they are scared of their customers. One of the workers/owners even came out into the parking lot to "observe" me as I went down the strip, pathetic stuff. Ironically, their competitor a couple stores down completely trusts their customers and is more relaxed. I don't like shopping anywhere where the owners and employees feel nervous with me...
Read morePlease don't confuse Far East Market with Asian Market which is right next door. Far east market has been a Saginaw staple for over 20 years. They supply many of the foods my family grew up eating. Each week I go there to pick up items for my business and they always have the freshest bean sprouts, thai basil, ginger, and daikon in town. Chau is always helpful and will point me in the right direction to find what I need. If you are looking for the best in southeast asian foods, this is the...
