Came here for the first time on Wednesday December 18, 2024 in the morning. This is a relatively new business to the area - coming from Montreal, we like to shop in Vermont and this happens to be on our way as it is close to Walmart in the area.
This is a discount store that offers a bit of everything - there are many home decor items, bedding, accessories, some shelf stable foods, toys, clothing, beauty products and knick knacks. The closest thing I can compare it to is Ollie's (there is one in Plattsburgh). I found the store to have a decent selection, but the overall vibe was very messy, dusty and kind of "low class". The clothing or toy selection are of poor quality. Immediately I thought Ollie's was better.
I wandered in every aisle and there weren't any major deals to be found. I was looking for something specific advertised in the store flyer but even after searching and asking for help from employees, no one could find this item. Lots of unopened boxes of stock and stuff just piled everywhere.
My favorite section was the beauty products area - There are soaps/body washes/lotions that you would not find in a regular store. For example, Dove or Johnson's products that come from another country. I am not sure how they arrived to the USA but these are versions of products normally sold abroad. If you check the labels you'll be surprised! Some stuff was made in Italy.
I think this is the type of place you have to check back often for deals - we walked away with some soaps and toothpaste, there were 5 packs of Colgate tubes for less than $3 which was a steal but otherwise couldn't find anything else that really...
Read moreI went to Ocean State Job Lot in St Albans on what they called their opening day. Situated in a small mall.
It was particularly busy when I was there.
I've been to other Ocean State Job Lot so I expected certain things. The layout of the store was quite different. It's extremely congested in the entrance area where the clothes are on the left side.
I was confused by the setup actually. Because I was aware of the great prices that they have generally, I was looking for certain items that I wasn't able to find.
The food area is smaller and do you have a great offering of gluten-free items which should be highlighted.
I love that you have so many International food items however I saw an end cap with panettone bread which is a typical holiday bread and should be flying off the shelves. You couldn't even see the inside of it . The packaging prevents anyone from seeing it. There should be a big sign indicating what it is exactly. It shouldn't be hidden on an end cap. It should be right there as you're coming in the store because it's an item that's time-sensitive.
I did find a few things particularly low-priced thermal long sleeve shirt for $5 in two pair of thermal winter socks for $6 .
This is the kind of story that you want to frequent because they're always changing different items on...
Read moreBig koodos to this store's service! I accidentally left my Seltzer Waters on the flat below my cart outside - 4 6-packs - and one of the workers saw them as she was going into work, and after she clocked in and suited up she went back out to get the carts and water. Then, she noticed the seltzer water wasn't there anymore. She figured I had gone back and picked them up and didn't think much of it. I called when I got home and explained the whole scenario about how I'm a spaz and I left my seltzer waters. Turns out a good Samaritan had seen them outside and brought them back in! Because the worker had seen them outside around the time I said I left them, she said they'd save the Seltzer waters for me to pick up the next day. Best news of the day! I live half hr away and it was a smoldering, humid day, and the A/C in my car isn't functional at the moment, so I was so sad when I returned home and noticed I didn't have the waters. Everyone in this store that I've met is so sweet and so...
