I broke up with vegetarianism for health reasons and wanted to find a local butcher to support for ethical reasons. I met with one of the employees first and asked a bunch of questions, and he was kind, patient, and super knowledgeable. All of their employees have been friendly and helpful each time I shop here. The quality of this place is unmatched! You can definitely taste the difference, it reminds me of my home country where all the food is local and free from all these modern toxins. After supporting this business for several months, I once went to Publix for the convenience and bought their “organic grass fed beef,” which I had to throw away because I couldn’t stomach the lower quality (this was on two separate occasions). We have made the switch from big box stores to more local small businesses in the last year. Southern Steer is one of my favorite switches that we have implemented. We go every week, the quality of the products and meats are so much better in taste and texture and the price is comparable so it doesn't cost us more money. Besides the meat products, every single thing we've tried from spice mixes, to sauces, to salsa, to sides, the drinks, the pasta sauce, and the gem and my favorite part THE DESSERTS. They always have a variety of candy and treats however if Sherry has made her Banana Rice Crispy Treats you better grab 3! Wow. Just wow. I usually NEVER leave reviews, but after going to Southern Steer, I felt obligated to. Meat, service, and the store overall is second to none. To start, Sean assisted me with my order and was absolutely phenomenal. Such a nice young man who is incredibly knowledgeable regarding meats and the butcher industry as a whole. Not only did Sean take the time to explain every single piece of meat they had, but also took the time to give me various ways to cook it along with great recipes that I desperately needed. Alex and Matt were also great, but I spent most of my time with Sean. Quality and flavor of the meat was amazing, with a price point that makes me want to go back every week, if not every meal.
