A very nice theatre on the inside, so don't let the somewhat worn looking exterior deter you from visiting. The sound system was excellent, the floors were not sticky, the movie crispness was great, and the staff were friendly. The lobby, restrooms, and all interior facilities were very clean. We went to see AIR about marketing Air Jordon shoes, and it was a delightful, well written story. We felt as if it was a private showing because there were only 4 patrons for this movie discount matinee, and 3 of us were together. Due to the cleanliness and low matinee attendance, I think we'll try out this theatre again instead of Tanglewood AMC.
11/6/2024 Went to see Concave with two friends at the 2 pm. (Discount) showing at Salem AMC. As I've stated before, the building facade could use an upgrade, but the interior of the theatre is very clean, especially compared to other theatres in the area. There were two staff and no other patrons. We purchased tickets, with no waiting, from a smiling, friendly gentleman, and viewed the movie with no one else in this movie. The sound was at a good listening level, but another theatre's muffled sound could be heard during the quiet portions of our movie. The visual was sharp and crisp, with no issues, and most of all, the floor was not STICKY! The seating could use an upgrade, as the seats sunk low with seemingly little padding, and all the seats in our row tended to lean a little. Otherwise, it was a very enjoyable experience in a clean theatre. I don't understand why the attendance is so low.
11/15/24 The exterior of the theatre could use some love, at minimum painting, to cover old peeling paint and concrete spots. The staff have decorated the windows with white window "snow" paint and drawn pictures and words touting the coming of Wild Robot in Sept. (it is now November), but I appreciate their efforts, and the movie is still playing. The interior could use some upgrading, but it is clean, as are the restrooms, lobby seating, and hall areas. The staff were friendly and personable. Inside the actual screen theatre, the floor was not sticky, and all seemed a little musty. I began sneezing after entering, but this soon abated. There were 3 in my party, with 6 others to view Red One. The seating could use some upgrading and was moderately comfortable for an over 2 hour movie. The sound was crisp and clear, but loud during the ads and previews, and tended to be more balanced during the movie. I enjoyed the movie but thought a higher rating than PG 13 was needed, as the subject matter (Santa and Christmas) tended to lead one to think it was a children's movie, which it was clearly not, due to language and some non graphic violence. Overall, I enjoyed the afternoon...
Read moreI am updating my review from 5 star to 2 star. I went to this theater (my preferred) on Sunday with my daughter. We brought with us the annual popcorn bucket. As the guy was filling it up, my daughter asked him to stop half way so she could put the butter in between. That is when I saw he had the bucket inside the bin with the popcorn. When we gave it back to him to add more popcorn I asked that he not put the bucket inside the bin with the popcorn. I never eat this kind of stuff but every once in a while when we go to the movies, I will indulge. Big mistake!! My mind started racing with all types of possibilities of what other people buckets may look like that are put in the popcorn bin. I shook the thought off and tried not to worry myself sick. Welp, I ended up literally getting sick because 2 days later I started feeling very ill and 2 days after that (today) I tested positive for COVID. I am not saying I got it from there but I eat clean 99% of the time and am a creature of habit. That is the only place that I have been out of my norm where I could have been exposed. Lesson: Avoid the popcorn!!
OAN: I did try to reach out to management to let them know but they won't pick up the phone so I guess they will find out reading this...
Read moreWhen Salem Valley 8 was a Carmike theater, I enjoyed going there. Yes, there were lots of previews, but it was clean, the staff was friendly, the sound levels were reasonable, and it was less crowded and less expensive than many of the other movie theaters in the area. However, the first time I went after it became an AMC theatre, my date and I were very unimpressed. It was reasonably clean, the staff was friendly, and it was still less crowded and less expensive than the other theaters, but the sound volume during the previews was uncomfortably loud, making quiet conversation impossible. The previews were repetitive and went on for 25 minutes after the movie was supposed to start. We were debating whether to leave or not when the feature finally started. About half way through, the movie, the screen went blank. Several people went to tell the staff about it, but we missed seeing (although we heard) almost 10 minutes of the movie. I'll definitely think twice before going back. If I do, I'll make a point to get there at least 10 minutes after the movie is supposed to start, and I'll take ear plugs to wear during...
