Pancake House — Restaurant in Salem

How has this place remained open for so long? I have lived in the area over 15 years. I always passed this place, but never ate there. As a professional chef, I usually enjoy the smaller venues, so I decided to finally check it out. Waited a while to get in. Once in, the server was prompt in taking our order. The food came in pieces, not all at once, which I feel is poor service and timing. As the food was coming in pieces, she kept asking do we have everything. She wrote the order down, she should just check our ticket make sure we have everything. My friend with me never got some of the items he ordered. At one point the server walked down the entire restaurant asking if anyone ordered hash browns. Yeah, that is professional. Turned out it was ours and the server said that the cook told her she had an order of hash browns, but she just didn't know who ordered them. The pancakes in this place are AWFUL!! They were dense, heavy, little flavor, and RAW in the middle. After all this, we got the check. $30 for the 2 of us. I find that to be a bit steep for breakfast. This place really sucks. Food was good, our server (who has waited on me numerous times before) was excellent. However, we came in with a group of 5 for fathers day and we asked if we could put a chair at the end of a table and the manager or lead server stated we could not due to fire code, I noticed another table that was at the end was open where we had set up numerous times in the past and asked about there and she became rude that we may not. We ended up sitting at separate tables and she continued to stare with an irritated look on her face toward us, she spoke with another waitress who turned her head right and looked right back at our table with an irritated look as well.

Normally I would make a negative review but I can honestly say I have never felt this unwelcomed at any establish on the past. Interesting enough that evening I had the stomach issues that evening, related or unrelated I am not sure, but I would not have put it past her continued glare that she could have been a part of that as well. It is not near the highway or on the main road. Perfectly away from corporate dining. All of those people who complain must like crowded places and poor quality food. I understand if something is not perfect from time to time. Saying that you can make it better at home is an insult to the farmers that supply this restaurant. I have a farm and the food is fresh. The sausage is wonderful. Coffee is better than Starbucks any day. If I lived closer all of the staff would know my name. I only wish that I could help make hashbrowns for them. Try and make pancakes at home as good as theirs. Call me and I will come and give you a master chef opinion. The service was so fast that I only had 2 sips of coffee. I will be back.
