I was a student at RCCC for 11 years. I had some great times. I enjoyed the different clubs and organizations on campus. I'm a student who needed accommodation due to a brain injury. During my time at RCCC I went through eight brain surgeries for a total of sixteen surgeries. My medical records were sent to RCCC as well as my high school transcripts. When I needed to go in for my life saving surgeries and had to miss class, the level of accommodation varied wildly among my instructors. One instructor simply said you'll just have to take my class next year. One instructor said, I'm teaching the same class next semester in the same room at the same time. All you need to do is come in on the date that I'll give you and you and the class can continue on together. Another instructor said, I want you to read the textbook cover to cover on your own. You'll need to do this in the learning resource center. The librarian will have a time sheet for you to fill out. When you have accumulated twenty four hours of reading time and you have a read the book cover to cover come see me. When you have done all your reading and made up your 24 hours of class time I will give you a ten question test that will cover the entire book. This ten question test will take the place of all the tests you took before you were hospitalized as well as any tests you've missed.
I went back on campus a while back and was disappointed. I went to student services and I noticed a kiosk but it wasn't labeled so I just walked passed. I walked up to the desk to ask for a catalog. I was told to take a number. I was the only person there and I had to wait after taking a number. Finally, I was allowed to approach the desk. I ask if I could have a catalog. The lady behind the desk said "It's online" and walked away. I tried looking up the CNA program online. I couldn't find it. I tried to ask the lady behind the desk about how to find the CNA program but, before asking my second question I had to take a number. I got my second number and waited by myself by the kiosk. Finally I was called to the desk and I asked how do I would find the CNA program in the catalog. Her response "it's online" and walks away again.
I have been in the home health field for nineteen years and I've been told by the RN's, DR's and FNP's that I could just take the CNA exam. they believed I had already gained the necessary knowledge and experience to take the CNA test. I took another number and waited by myself again until I was called to the desk again. I asked "how would I go about taking the CNA exam." Her response was "you would take the exam after completing all your classwork." She walked away again. I just gave up on RCCC after...
Read moreDon't get me wrong the education is decent; It's the services and how they run the place that make it frustrating. The academic advisors don't help you sign up for classes or help you figure out which ones are transferrable. They are just there. You cant just go talk to someone and get help, you must take a number even if you're the only one there. They will refuse to help you if you don't. Whoever makes the decisions there decided to destroy the scenery we had, now it's completely barren and grey with no color at all. The blackboard website that is used for all student grades, assignments, etc... doesn't work half of the time and all of my professors have had problems with it not accepting student grades. The computer systems freeze most of the time; the rest of the time it's so slow you want to pull your hair out. They waist money like it grows on trees by hiring more and more security and buy the security guards $8,000 air-conditioned golf carts to ride in, the ones that use them are obese and just ride around for show. The ones that aren't in use just sit in front of the main building gathering dust because the higher-ups don't know what to do with it. Because RCCC makes poor decisions with their money, they decide to make it harder on the students by closing down the library and computer labs every Friday. RCCC runs the place like a middle school with recently added rules that once students get done with their final exams, even when there is nothing left to do for the class, the professor must keep the student held in the class room just like any normal day. Also, none of the hand sanitizers in any of the buildings work. This college possibly worthy of two stars, but I'm a little harsher on them. If you go there,...
Read moreI literally have no idea where these bad reviews are coming from. I’ve been at RCCC south campus for 1 1/2 years now, and I’ve had nothing but good experiences. All of my professors have been accreditable, financial aid is always helpful, and replies quickly to emails; and the advisors help with scheduling as well. The advisors are hard to contact via phone, but they are always readily available when you go on campus. I had personal troubles which caused me to lose my financial aid. And the FA advisors helped me get my financial aid back for the following semester in an appeal which took all of 30 minutes. I’ve never had an issue being a minority female on/around, as another reviewer stated. I’ve also never encountered rude or unprofessional staff as another reviewer stated. Maybe they’re talking about North campus in Salisbury. My experience with RCCC has been great thus far. Looking forward to getting my...
