I was just about to give up on HEB (after having spent the entire afternoon calling nearly every HEB in town in an exhaustingly unsuccessful attempt to order the new Fireside Camp theme cake my son had his heart set on for his pool party two days from now), when an employee at another store suggested I try the new store on Bulverde Road.
In spite of the complete hopelessness I felt at that point, I grudgingly dialed the number without enthusiasm and expected the worst. However, I found my impatience and frustration melting away after being connected with Chini in the bakery department. He could not have been more kind, patient, reassuring and helpful - there really aren't enough positive adjectives to describe him.
Unfortunately, like the other stores I contacted , the Bulverde Road store also had not yet received the toy kit necessary to complete the cake (said kit apparently contains the plastic boat, tent, campfire and trees that make the cake so unique and appealing to those children...and adults...who love nature and are unimpressed by the standard selection of tacky media-inspired cartoon motifs that make up 95% of commercially available theme-cakes). However, he apologized that I had to go through so much to find a store willing to or able to make the cake, took my phone number and offered to call the manufacturers of the toy kit and attempt to have it overnighted to his store so that the cake could be made in time. True to his word, he immediately called me back, said the kit would be sent to him just in time to make the cake, said he would rush the order and even offered to make a personal attempt to get the cake to me in time for the party!
Needless to say, ten minutes on the phone with Chini melted away my cynicism and more than helped to make up for the hours of aggravation I had just experienced. I was so touched and impressed that I called the store manager, Marcus, to express my appreciation. He was equally as kind, concerned and professional. My experience proves not only that one should never give up, but that the new Bulverde Road HEB is off to the best start possible and appears to have already hired the most exemplary employees and managers in town. My only regret is that they are 40 minutes from my house - otherwise I'd probably visit everyday. Congratulations to those of you lucky enough to live in the area! You have a...

The HEB online shoppers act like they own the place, had one hit our basket and then block our view of tge items we are shopping for with their HUGE cart they cannot handle.
As for today's shopping experience at this location I came across a few products what has been expired a month ago and another to be expired 5 months ago. And then to go to a manned checker and bagger to check out.
They bagger needs lots of training or do they train them anymore. Why bag cleaners with feminine products, toothbrush and cinnamon spice ALL in one bag š . And gravy packets with cold products. And to constantly put heavy bags on top of fresh vegetables. I kept removing tge bags from on top of the fresh vegetables only for her to continue to pile stuff on stop of them.
And never, ever has any of these baggers offer to help carry out the groceries. Its not a race.
38 years ago my first real job in high school was with HEB as a bagger. And this kind of behavior and attitude was unacceptable. There was training on how to bag groceries and what could and what shouldn't be bagged together.
HEB did not get where they are today with such disrespect to there customers. And me as a customer to be told by a manager that the online shopper employee isn't an HEB employee. They are employed by the customers who are submitting orders online. Would I rather be shopping with hundreds of customers or the 1 on-line shopper.
As you look at pics a bag is torn with several heavy canned products just...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBuying Fish and Seafood from HEB? Beware! Purchased a ready to cook meal: stuffed salmon with broccoli. When I arrived at home I turned in the oven and opened the package. I smelled the fish and it was a little fishy. But the date showed that it was still good? Hmm okay I popped it in the oven and when it came out I sampled the fish it tasted slightly spoiled. The crab in the center seemed edible. So I sampled the broccoli. It was sitting in a brown sauce( juices from the fish). I raised the broccoli tomy nose and it was rancid. I almost gagged. I wrapped the container back in the package. I returned it the next day. The week before I purchased 1 lb of colossal shrimp from the HEB on 1604 it was previously frozen. It was slimey when I deveined it. I rinsed it and it tasted spoiled and smelled bad. I also bought some tilapia from the seafood case since they didn't have the farm raised frozen tilapia. The tilapia was also bad barely edible. If your I will never purchase packed meal ready to cook from the seafood cold from subsection near the meat area or anything that's packed and prepared to cook. I don't believe it is kept cold enough to say fresh. A lot of the sea food minus the fresh caught shrimp is usually fresh most of the time although there have been several times it smelled of ammonia. Note that most of the seafood sold in the display case with ready to cook meals are the old shrimp and salmon from the butcher display case that have been rised and repackaged. So if you want real fresh seafood buy the from the freezer it frozen fresh so when thawed it taste like the fresh from the water...
