Recently, due to the sudden death of my wife, I needed to move to downsize. By God’s grace, I was able to find a smaller place in the same neighborhood. While still grieving, I was also faced with the daunting task of how to move everything. I had trash, electronic waste, documents to shred and although the place I found was fully furnished, I wanted to move some of my items to the new place and give some away to friends in need. I knew of Darrell and Modern Trends, as he had dispositioned all of the items in my sister-in-law’s mobile home when she passed, but my case was far more complicated. So what did Darrell and his team do? The list is long, but the major items are;
Showed up on time. He and his team always showed up when they said they would.
Darrell did a walk through and a detailed assessment of all items. My wife had collected several art pieces over the years, and a couple of them were valuable. Darrell did an assessment on the spot of all pieces and told me which were valuable and which ones weren’t. The valuable ones he offered to place online and split the proceeds with me.
He moved items I specified from the old house to the new house.
He moved wall hangings and then placed them strategically in the new home, using his interior design expertise.
He sold me 2 area rugs from his shop at a very reasonable price.
He moved very heavy, large pieces that I gave to a friend. He took them to her house, in another city, several miles away.
He disposed of the shredding, trash/junk and the electrical waste items.
Everyone was kind, compassionate and empathetic with my situation.
When his team was done, they left the house completely vacant.
Darrell and team were truly a one stop shop for the disposition of everything in the house.
Left to do this on my own, I would’ve needed to coordinate multiple parties and paid a lot more, and experienced considerable more stress and angst. Meeting Darrell was truly a God ordained introduction that I will forever remember...
Read moreIf you’re finding the left hand turn off of Barnett difficult, take the long way and head down Kurtz alongside Walter Greens and make your slight right into the parking lot of THE best thrift store. I hesitate to even call it a thrift? It’s thrift, it’s antique, it’s high-low, just like moi.
I fell in love on a Monday with a golden afghan rug and a hide ottoman. The owner, Darrell, had plenty to say about the rug, knew it’s history, the previous owner, how it was stored… I came back to purchase that Tuesday and he gave me a SMOKIN’ deal on both.
I especially appreciated that he remembered the two items I was after so even though he wasn’t in, Etienne had all the details and was able to close me out. The deal was so good, I’m not sure she would have believed me otherwise.
Be nice, ask questions, be reasonable, pay with cash for the best deal. If you’re looking to pick through piles and piles of junk and leave with a car full for $20, this ain’t the spot. If you want to score beautiful pre-loved goods with a story behind them and style for miles for excellent prices and lessen the fast-furniture industry’s impact on landfills, THIS...
Read moreI saw the signs on the streets about this thrift store. I looked them up and saw all the negative reviews, but i decided to go in and check it out for myself. I am a thrift store junkie and often go looking for cool vintage items. Walking in I wasn't greeted- no biggie. I walked around the store and noticed that items were tremendously over priced, even after the 50% off. I tried to find something priced decently, to support a local business, but couldn't find anything. I've been to many thrift stores, even boutique thrift stores, and haven't come across anything so gosh darn expensive. I could go to any antique store and buy any identical item for much less. For the items that are not "antique ", I could walk into any store and buy it brand new for less. Love thrift shopping and I love supporting local businesses, but if management and prices don't change for the better, I don't see this place being around for long. Also, for the record I didn't get a 'have a good day or hope to see...
