I started my yoga practice at home along with a friend back when P90X was the thing to do. We did it for exercise and didn’t realize how hard it was until we tried it out. When I moved out to NYC, I tried to continue but I was not consistent with my practice. It’s not that there wasn’t availability, I just was not as committed. Fast forward to today, back in San Diego, and I’ve been consistently attending classes at MODA YOGA since October 2024. Thanks to another friend for letting me use her guest pass and bringing this practice back into my life. Let me tell you, yoga alone is hard. Making the room 100 degrees adds an extra challenge that makes their classes unique. Besides the two times I was sick, I’ve been going about three times a week. As a mother of two young ones, I find my practice very helpful in keeping my sanity and having time to myself. The facility is consistently clean, including bathrooms and showers. Thank you, Moda Yoga San Diego, Frenny, Andrew, Lauren, Lindsey, Sze, Clare and Michelle for your offerings. Now if only these kiddos can watch themselves, I can start taking BJJ and Kickboxing classes on the regular again, haha.

I don’t do heat…well, until recently ;) The hot yoga classes @ Modo Yoga are actually something that I have started craving and looking forward to (after only a couple classes)! And my skin feels amazing! Modo Yoga is very clean and spacious and well laid out. I was warmly welcomed on my 1st visit and was told EVERYTHING that I needed to know for my 1st hot yoga experience. Frenny made me feel at ease - I knew I was in good hands. She checked in with me a few times during the class as well as after the class :) I started with Yin Yoga and have added in other yoga classes. The background music is perfect. Frenny and Andrew have the ideal voices and amount of talking for guiding to each pose, explaining of benefits of each to variations depending on your body that day and prompts for encouraging the mental and physical stresses of the day to melt away :)

This place is feels very local and you can tell it's a part of the community. They have a huge chalkboard when you walk in that welcomes people to add their input. My boyfriend practiced here and took over 300 classes with them and I would come in once every few months. The owners have always been so kind. Only thing I'll mention is that you could tell the culture may be changing as they continue to grow, but hoping they can continue to maintain their small studio feel for new students.

Modo Yoga = WOW! Frenny and Andrew (the owners/teachers here) are so welcoming, they make everyone who walks through their door feel like Family. The tea after class, the supportive talks they give to their exiting and entering students...I had no idea this Studio would be so inviting and accommodating.

Over 18 years ago, I went to a yoga class in OB with my sister. It was a beginner to intermediate class. At one point, they did headstand poses. I told the teacher I hadn't done one since I was a kid on my parent's couch. The handstand felt amazing until my neck started twitching. The teacher ended up leaving me in a pose for way to long and I ended up in Urgent Care an hour after class with a jacked up neck. My trust in teachers since then has been shaky to say the least.

After taking 3 of the Modo Yin Yoga classes (ps: these Yin classes are in a hot room, too), I could feel my body thanking me for the extra movement besides sitting behind a computer for 8-9 hours a day. I had no idea Yin could be more than just simple stretches, it was an emotional and cathartic release! They explained during class about emotions being stored in the body. Yoga isn’t just exercise. It’s much deeper than that and can balance you out on so many levels. The knowledge that Frenny and Andrew have not only encourage me during the poses, they empower me! Their knowledge is only surpassed by their kindness and HEART that they put into everything at Modo. This Yoga Studio is the answer to my prayers!

Since the Yin, I got brave and decided to go for the Modo Yoga and Modo Flow Yoga (ps: yes, these are hot yoga classes and will get your sweat going big time!) Though I can’t do all the poses perfectly, Frenny & Andrew explain all the variations to the poses so that you’re not just left sitting on the mat. They explain the importance of listening to your body, the relaxation that breath can bring and even inspiring quotes during the class that feed not just your mind, but your soul. They are respectful and skilled at helping adjust you during the poses as well, making sure you get every beneficial minute out of the class.

I feel safe, supported and welcomed at this beautiful natural lit and very clean Studio, there are spacious locker rooms and squeaky clean showers. They also have a mat and towel rental that can be factored into your monthly yoga packages (if you buy one...there are many options to match your practice, they also have discounted Karma classes). And their $40 Intro Month package? PERFECT!

Thank you so much for reading this! The existing Modo students I’ve met have only wonderful things to say about Frenny & Andrew, as do I. Their mini-snippets of advice have stuck with me and I love their-no-pressure-approach to not just yoga but to Life.

If you’re a first-time student or a practicing yogi, you will find your Studio here with Frenny and Andrew. You’re in expert hands here. I am very grateful to have found this Studio, and proud to now call myself an existing San Diego Modo...

I LOVE Modo yoga! Teachers are excellent! I’ve taken classes from Andrew, Frenny, and Lauren and all of them do a great job articulating the movements to get into a position. Whether you are new or a frequent yoga student, they offer plenty of options for you to modify the movement to suit what is right for your practice. The music during class is always enjoyable and I really like when they start the class with a mantra as many times I find it is just what I need in my practice. I love that these classes are focused on movement from the breath as this carries me from one position to the next. After classes I find I have better sleep, breathing, and I perform better in other exercise I do (HIIT). All classes are great, I especially like the freestyle class and other days I need to slow my mind and body down with the Yin class. All the classes offer an excellent range of options for your needs. The studio is SO clean. Love the natural light in the class. Plenty of amenities -lockers, showers, yoga mat cleaning station, water fountain and more. Tons of FREE parking! The membership and class pricing has lots of options for everyone’s needs. Truly love this studio and so happy they are here in San Diego. Thank you Modo Yoga for the blessing you are to...

Such a disappointment with this studio. It is hot and the sequence is very challenging. Good! I farted in class and Frenny, the teacher made fun of me for it after the class, telling me the other students were laughing and talking about me. She said no on evere farts in class. Really? Maybe thats why they're ALL SO BLOATED. I thought that was absolutely INAPPROPRIATE to be treated in a way that would make one embarrassed to practice, FEEL ASHAMED. Gas happens especially when you are bending and stretching, then contracting your abs and doing WIND REMOVING POSE!!! LOL. Frenny the teacher even went so far as to suggest I did it in purpose? Who farts on command? Her husband and co owner came to my defense saying a student had just farted in his last class. Obviously this teacher has some issues with me. I had a 30 day pass and was continuously singled out for breathing too loud, being too strong, or out of sequence, etc. Such a great studio that was ruined for me. Later found out owners have been working everyday since studio opened. Clearly stressed out and taking it out on student (me). CONFUSED!! I've done yoga for 20 years, never had anything like this... i need a yoga class to calm down after this experience, lol. Definitely...
