Fast Times — Restaurant in San Diego

This review is about the bad food at Fast Times. I went to the Ukulele Night last night with friends. Great atmosphere, the service was decent, but the nachos we ordered were horrendous. It came to us as a muddled mess, as if someone threw up on a plate of small chips. And by the way, I grew up in Southern California. I know how actual restaurant nachos should look and taste. Not only was this plate of nachos super small, with little tiny plastic side cups of sour cream and guacamole (which was the worst I've ever tasted), it came with some kind of awful mix of cheese. It looked like they started with actual cheese, and then squirted some kind of Velveeta cheese on top of it. And the beans were all over the chips, instead of on the side, which made the chips soggy and flaccid. We should have sent the whole disgusting thing back, but my friends didn't want to make a scene. Bad move, I'm paying the price today.

I think the worst part about serving your patrons crap is that it shows you don't respect them. I couldn't find any background on the owners, but if they're from anywhere around the Southwestern U.S., they should be ashamed of themselves. FastTimes is a fun, lively spot with a great atmosphere, especially if you’re into free live music! I dance here often. The bands are usually great, and the vibe was energetic without being overwhelming. It’s a perfect place to kick back with friends and enjoy some good tunes and cold drinks.

What I Loved: ✔ Live Music – Free and Fantastic! The band really brought the place to life. ✔ Laid-Back Vibe – A mix of locals and music lovers, no pretentiousness here. ✔ Spacious & Comfortable – Plenty of seating indoor and out and a decent, not large dance floor.

The Food? Just Okay. The menu is decent, but nothing to write home about. It’s more of a "grab a bite while you enjoy the music" kind of place rather than a foodie destination. That said, it does the job if you’re hungry!

Very good grilled chicken sandwich and tater tots at a fair price. Good bun, fresh toppings, and a tasty chicken patty. The quality you would expect from a restaurant or bar, way better than fast food. Due to Covid-19, had to get it To Go. The bartender was very friendly and the service was fast. Update: Got two grilled chicken sandwiches with swiss cheese and tater tots. This time both chicken patties were a little tough and had a slightly crunchy texture, similar to cartilage in spots.
