Californias Taco Shop — Restaurant in San Diego

On visit from Phoenix we ate here Aug 15th, 2014 & had the fish tacos on corn tortilla. Excellent flavor, meaty fish and the rice/beans had much more flavor then the fancy rockin baha. Modest place, but very good food. Worker asked us if we were bothered by the cleaning (smell) as she cleaned up the place (about 9:30pm), and quit right away. I do get the sense they keep up on cleanliness, looked and smelled very clean (just too much with the cleaining while actually eating), but they were very nice to deal with and thoughtful. Seemed like the workers cared (makes a huge difference). We could have split the two fish taco/rice/beans plate since it was so late at night and portion size was healthy. Two of these plates & two drinks were about fifteen dollars, so not particularily inexpensive, but the quality and service shows through so will be back next time in town....

Moving away after living a block away from this place for a while an I've gotta say the service here has been spotty on more than one occasion but for the most part the food here hits the spot.... Cali Burrito is legit, as are Carne Asada Fries, but the one thing I will miss the most is the Hashbrown Burrito.... It's everything I want in a breakfast burro.

Other than those few things I wouldn't venture too far into the rest of the menu, I've tried their Chilaquiles and Sopes and both were terrible. Also make sure your order is correct before leaving the drive thru as they have a tendency to give u the wrong order or even forget some things from time to time.

Overall You'll be fine so long as u don't get too adventurous, on any given day it will still be better than Roberto's...

Cotijas Taco Shop is conveniently located right on the main drag that is Garnet Avenue at Dawes just four blocks up from the beach in Pacific Beach. This is a pretty good taco shop for burritos and the regular Taco Shop Mexican Cuisine in a very casual setting. However the biggest best feature of this Taco Shop is their breakfast burritos. First of all the breakfast burritos are very good but more importantly every day from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. they are all priced just $3.99! That is a huge bargain for what would otherwise be double that price. They have the very popular hash brown burrito but my favorite is the meat lovers which is called steak and bacon burrito. In addition they also offer a really good steak and egg with potatoes burrito. Try them all as they are very filling...
