I am a San Diego native and have always seen this big blue hydra terra vehicle parked on the side walk as I enter Sea Port Village. Finally had the chance to ride this half land half water vehicle.
Tickets: Get them on line or in person. Different times of the day have different pricing. If you have access to military base, you can get them at a discount. Or if you’re a San Diego local like me, sign up for the Hometown Pass to get BOGO in person.
Parking: Park in the lot and get your ticket validated by them to receive a discount. I was there for 3 hours and paid $11. The ticket machines are broken, you must pay with the attendant on the way out.
The restroom is near the ticket booth. Get there early to stand in line if you want to get the best seats. We got there 30 mins before departure and there were about 20 people ahead of us. There’s really no bad seat but I would say sit on the right side (passenger side). The best row would be the one by the gate in the middle, it gives lots of leg room like on a plane in the emergency row.
It doesn’t really matter where you sit because the vehicle rotates around and you’re allowed to stand and walk around once you’re in the water.
Not much to see in the land portion. It goes pass Harbor Island, through Shelter Island to go into the water and boat around Point Loma. Entire tour was 90 minutes.
It gets windy and cold in certain areas. They do offer blankets to keep you warm.
We had captain Michael and Bailey as the tour guide. She’s super funny with tons of cheesy jokes. Highly recommend this tour to see the beautiful side of San Diego and all the local gems that you would have never known if it weren’t...
Read moreIt was definitely informative and learned some new stuff about San Diego. One tip is pay attention to which spot your departing from, don't just Google maps it like we did. It took us to their main ticket place and our tour was departing from the other location. We had to almost fast walk like crazy to make it. Even though it says kid friendly, I wouldn't waste the money if your kids are less than 9. We took our 5 and 7 year old and they couldn't see over the side. Due to safety reasons kids have to sit on laps or knees) which I understand, no issue with that) but they still can barely see. So they were just bored. They give blankets out at one point which I thought was nice. I wouldn't do it again, but I don't regret going as an adult. But definitely was a waste of money for kids and it's does cost a pretty penny. The staff were all friendly. I did the duck tour in SF (same thing) and that one was a lot more...
Read moreHighly misleading product and offering. A 90 minute town and harbour tour in a modern version of a DUKW with 3 minutes looking at a half dozen sea lions sitting atop a man made fish bait barge. No seals and mostly a town orientation tour with some nice facts about restaurant's and navy bases. Captain C. HILL, and Sammy worked very hard to make a shoddy product interesting but it was spoiled by loud tacky music and very little in the way of wildlife. Save your money and walk La Jolla cove and see hundreds of seals, seal pups and sea lions in a more natural habitat for free on street parking. 4 stars for Sammy and C. Hill but this is just a town and harbour tour by aquatic bus....
