Hazelwoods On the Bay is a delightful hidden gem nestled right along the beautiful San Diego waterfront. From the moment I arrived, the calming harbor views paired with the laid-back café–deli vibe made me feel instantly at ease. The outdoor patio is ideal—perfect for enjoying a sunny morning meal or a leisurely lunch while watching boats glide by.
The menu is both comforting and satisfying. I started with the hearty breakfast burrito, packed with eggs, peppers, onions, sausage, gooey cheese, and served with crispy potatoes—both familiar and flavorful. The Surf City sandwich, loaded with turkey, bacon, avocado, lettuce, and tomato on a crusty roll, struck the perfect balance between fresh and indulgent. For something more classic, the Western BBQ cheeseburger delivers with a juicy patty, smoky bacon, melty cheddar, and tangy BBQ sauce—a true comfort-food winner.
Service was friendly and efficient, and the casual atmosphere makes it great for everything from solo bites to family outings. Whether you're fueling up before an adventure or relaxing after a harbor stroll, Hazelwoods On the Bay hits the mark with wholesome food, welcoming vibes, and unforgettable views. I can’t...
Read moreArrogant and Lying Manager with bland food. I went in today (9-18) around 4PM and I asked if there were any specials. The cook said yes and pointed me to two signs near the register. I noticed that they were breakfast specials and then the manager (Tony) said there are lunch specials too.
I asked if there was a special on the hamburger combo and he said yes, sure he would give a good deal and so I ordered it.
After he charged me (it came out to around $15.07 with tax) I noticed the price was exactly full-price (just as if I ordered it without being a special). So he lied there.
I pointed this out and he said don't worry about it (in an arrogant fashion) I will see (implying that there would be something extra involved like extra fries or something to make as if it was a special).
But there was nothing different. So in sum, the manager (Tony) said that my burger combo was a "special" it wasn't (he lied) and when pointed out to him he was arrogant about it ("Don't worry about it" he said).
Plus, the burger was just bland with sort of old tomatoes and over garnished...
Read moreHB is right across from the cruise ship terminal and between the USA Midway Museum and old India ship museum. The view, especially during sunset is fantastic. I even got some pics of Marines marching and singing on the water.
They have probably the best deli on the bay with salads, sandwiches, breakfasts, deli items, wine and even a candy section
I had the signature "Big Rich" sandwich named after the owner. It was full of cheese, ham, turkey and enough for 2 meals.
The antipasta salad with boars Head Genoa salami, cheeses, olives and Italian dressing is the best I've ever had, it's addictive and reasonably priced for the high quality.
I also had a bag of candy including gummi bears, sours, bubblegum.
There is alot of seating on a large patio with as I mentioned the spectacular Bay view.
