We stayed here last year for a cruise so we knew this was the place to stay again when we were in town for another cruise. We landed early and luckily we were able to check in early! The man working the desk in the late morning/early afternoon shift was very pleasant and friendly. Shout out to him for rhyming the entire interaction as well as the informational spiel. Great touch! Our room had a view of the USS midway and a little of the harbor/cruise port. If you want to watch the cruise ship sail in, go to the end of the hallway and there is a window that faces directly at the cruise port. The room was spacious. There is a microwave, paper plates and utensils, a mini fridge, a small Keurig, a desk, couch (can pull out), a closet, and one large restroom with a barn door. Note the barn door does not lock and the shower/toilet/sink are all together in one space. This did not bother us as we are just a party of 2. For the two of us it was plenty of space for one night prior to the cruise. However if a family of 5 was staying here for a large chunk of time, then I would think the storage to put things would be slim since there was very minimal drawers and shelves. Also, since we wouldn’t be boarding the cruise ship until the afternoon, we notified the front desk and they were able to put us for late checkout and extended our keys. This hotel is also in a great location. It is bay front and you can walk along the bay to the various restuarants/piers. It is also very close the Midway museum which is awesome. We were also able to walk to Little Italy very easily from here as well. The breakfast is located on the 5th floor around the corner and down the hallway from the elevators. It is a very large space because there are a lot of people there! It was very busy but they did well keeping up with everyone by clearing plates and refilling items. The breakfast spread is pretty standard, albeit larger than other usual hotel breakfasts. Of course they have bagels/bread/muffins, fruit, cereal, oatmeals, bacon/eggs/sausage/pancakes/waffles, and yogurt. We did not have time to try the pool, but it is also on the 5th floor. There is also a pool bar/restaurant that looks very nice with fire pits and couches. If you are a guest you access it from the regular elevators. If you are not staying at the hotel you access it via external elevators outside the entrance to the hotel. This is also where the room service comes from if you order it. They give you an informational sheet of paper that has all of the amenities of the hotel listed including the hours and location which is helpful. I also want to mention that we took an Uber from the airport and it is very close. Check out was very quick and easy. We then rolled our luggage literally across the street to the cruise terminal. This is the hotel to stay at prior to the night of the cruise for pure convenience factor. Overall the quality of the hotel was very luxe with a modern feel. The rooms were spacious with great views. We would stay here again if we were cruising out...
Read moreThis place is a nice stay in downtown San Diego, it is about a 15–23 minute walk to Little Italy. I like how Amtrak is just a five-minute walk, makes it easy for me to arrive and depart on the Pacific Surfliner. Our room view showed the airplanes arriving and departing from the airport . We also saw people getting on their cruise ships such as Disney. You will hear the horn sound when the cruise ship leaves the port. However, I think I only heard two cruise ships depart my entire stay. It’s not that big of a concern but it is loud. I would keep in mind that ships sound the fornhog on days when visibility is low. So, if you can’t stand loud ship horns then avoid coming when its super foggy.
Room cleaning is typically every few days (I think it was three days usually) but you can request a cleaning earlier or get more items like toilet paper. I believe you can use the app to request toilet paper, but I usually just called them or asked for toilet paper in the lobby. Sometimes they hand you the toilet paper there at the counter or they will tell you someone will be up there shortly.
You need to use your room key card to operate the elevator and go up to your floor. Do not leave your room without your keycard. If you have guests, they need a keycard to operate elevator to get up to your room. No key card then no elevator operation. You can go to the lobby without a keycard though if you ever get locked out. If you are concerned about folks in your hotel without a room wandering around, then this is the place for you. If you plan on having guests and you do not want to come downstairs to get them, then this will be hassle. A keycard is needed to come up the elevator freely.
There is free breakfast in the morning which serves both hot and cold options. Options varied everyday but they served eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, etc. I feel like the eggs gave me some digestive issues though, maybe its powdered eggs lol. Other than that, breakfast was good. It is open seating; the staff typically comes and takes your plate, or you can place empty plates on top of the trash can.
The laundry room is located on the top floor (I think it was floor 15), you can purchase detergent on the first floor. I think it was $2 for a box that was for one load. The fabric softner was about $1 for a single sheet.
There is a heated pool but no jacuzzi. Overall, this hotel had everything you needed. It was safe, served free all you can eat breakfast, clean, and in a...
Read moreHow I currently feel about my stay is disappointment. I didn’t sleep too well because the weekend was meant to be a fun and relaxing time for my daughter and I. I wanted to stay at a hotel that I felt provided me with memorable service, perks included. I’ve previously stayed at a SpringHill Suites, the reviews for this location were good, and Marriott always delivers. Instead, from the beginning of my check in, nothing went right setting the tone for an unpleasant stay. What I made reservations for I did not receive. First off, I was placed in an accessible room that had an adjoining door and it was not thoroughly cleaned. My health and the health of my daughter are top priority. I immediately called and informed the front desk (spoke to Vena) of my dissatisfaction and they did accommodate me with another room. I thought ok things were finally headed in the right direction, but sadly was so wrong. The second room was worse than the first with regard to cleanliness. There was an excessive amount of hair on the bathroom floor and shower, stray hair on the toilet, counter top and desk, apparent food stains on the desk, couch and on the face towel. Even though Jacqueline, the housekeeping supervisor, came to inspect herself and had someone come through and do a touch up, psychologically the damage had been done. And to be honest some of the hair remained in the shower and a cleaning solution was left on the TV stand. Who would have thought that I would strike out twice. The room that I chose was to come with tickets for the trolley. When I called down to inquire about them I understood that only one ticket was available leaving me to find alternative entertainment for my daughter the next morning. I was provided some complimentary coupons and snacks, but It is very unlikely that I will return to this establishment or recommend it to my friends. My evening was such a bust that I missed being able to treat my daughter to the meal of her choice, we spent countless time trying to ensure that our accommodations were at least suitable for us to lay our heads. At this time, I’m very disappointed in the services I have received and feel that this was not good use my time, the miles I drove and the money that I spent. I did speak to a manager post stay who attempted to make it right and said she would personally help with my next reservation, but that will...
