After hearing rave reviews about Prager Brothers Artisan Breads, I finally decided to stop by their Hillcrest locationāand Iām so glad I did! This charming bakery lives up to its stellar reputation, especially when it comes to their sourdough bread. The moment you step inside, youāre greeted by the mouthwatering aroma of freshly baked bread, and itās impossible not to get excited about the variety of options on display.
The sourdough here is truly something special. It has the perfect balance of tangy flavor and a wonderfully chewy texture with a crust thatās crisp but not overly hard. We picked up a loaf of their classic sourdough as well as a multigrain option, and both were absolutely fantastic. Whether youāre eating it fresh, toasting it, or pairing it with your favorite spreads, you wonāt be disappointed.
The staff at Prager Brothers is friendly and knowledgeable, making the experience even better. Theyāre happy to answer questions and offer recommendations, which is great if youāre overwhelmed by all the delicious choices. In addition to bread, they have an impressive selection of pastries, and their croissants are next on my list to try.
This place is definitely a new favorite, and Iāll be back regularly to stock up on their incredible baked goods. If youāre in Hillcrest and havenāt stopped by yet, donāt wait as long as I didāyouāre missing out on some of the best bread in San Diego....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was at an event yesterday where sandwiches were served for lunch. Typically when sandwiches are catered they come dry and have the mayo/mustard packets on the side - not the case here. I was expecting to be disappointed. I had a turkey/cheese sandwich w/arugula and chimichurri sauce, which I've never had before. The flavors in the chimichurri combined with everything else made for an awesome (and non-dry) sandwich. The arugula was a great alternative to the usual iceberg or romaine lettuce you see in other sandwich shops. It left such an impression on me that I drove from East County to Hillcrest about an hour ago to get my hands on another one! Only $6 each (I should've bought 2), so they're inexpensive, but if you want chips, you'll have to get them from your nearest store. There are veggie/ham sandwiches as well; there are also scones and other bakery items. The beverage selection is very limited - there aren't any fountain drinks, but they do have water, a couple different flavors of sparkling water, kombucha and I believe cold brew coffee. Takeout only. I'll definitely...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI love this place, they have good sandwiches and breads, have tried almost all of them, but today for the second time in less than a week I was there to pick up a sandwich, there was a fly in the shop wondering on the sandwiches, I let the cashier know, the fly literally flew flew and walked his way inside the sandwich, I told the cashier which sandwich it was, he pick it up, shook it and the fly flew out back into the display glass and shockingly, the cashier put the same sandwich back into the display shelf! He said yeah, we have flies and can't do much about them!!!! Seriously?!! You can't catch a fly and will let that fly sit on all the sandwiches and you sell them to people?! Even after me pointing the fact that there is a fly, after three days you never bothered to catch the fly?! So I am really wondering what is going in back in the preparation area! God knows what kind of insects are feeding on the supplies that they make sandwiches! Will never step a foot into this shop!...
