Warhammer — Local services in San Diego

Damian is the best. He has been gaming for longer than many of his customers have been alive, and he still brings incredible enthusiasm to everything he does. The store is a great place to start learning about Warhammer and 40k if you are new to the hobby, or to pick up some friendly games if you are a veteran. There are also regularly held leagues for those interested in an ongoing challenge. Those who are more into painting models than waging war will find plenty of guidance and ample supplies. What I like best about the store is that it is not full of tournament maniacs out to win at all costs - that kind of nonsense is actively discouraged by many of the regulars, because after all, these games are supposed to be FUN, rather than providing a forum for aging manchildren to work out the aggressions on innocent youth. Can’t recommend this store enough, especially if you’re new to the hobby like me.

It’s an intimidating world to step into when you’re a total newbie, but the manager was helpful and kind the second I walked through the door. Before even buying anything he set me up with a painting lesson and my first space marine, as well as guiding me on my first army. I never felt like he was trying to upsell me on anything and genuinely wanted me to buy what was best for my hobbying. I’ve been popping in ever since for pointers and he’s always been super helpful and willing to walk me through all the intricacies of the 40k universe. The veteran players in the store have been nice as well, I never felt unwelcome or out of place.

As soon as I walked in, I was greeted as if I was a regular, asked how my day was going, and a very enthusiastic "What brings you in? How can I help you?" You might think that I was the only person in the store, but no. There was a good amount of customers (3 to 4) and players at the table (6 to 8). With the store busy, Damian's customer service was above and beyond. I'm new to the hobby and Damian's experience showed by answering all of my questions in regards of where to start and the many options to expand in the future.
