I asked for 4 inches off my hair and some long layers in the back and what I got was ~7 inches off my hair (I came home and measured with a measuring tape from before/after photos I had). What bothers me is that my hair dresser chopped off all the length (with very rough and inaccurate measurement of what 4 inches really looks like to her) the moment I sat down. I showed her some photos of the kind of layers I wanted and she copied the photo itself with the length of the hair being significantly shorter rather than following the direction I wanted - which was only getting 4 inches off my currently longer lower back length hair and then giving some layers.
She cut 7 inches off my dry/dirty hair right off the bat and went to shampoo and wash it. I saw the length of hair on the ground and I immediately questioned if that was even 4 inches off? I can visibly tell that my hair was significantly shorter (than what I asked for) than before. I don't mind medium long length hair. It upsets me the most that the length was already gone from the beginning and what's done is done. She told me that herself. I get that hair grows back but this is definitely an unresolvable situation at this current moment since she could've cut less from the start and cut more as she went. My hair stylist was actually pleasant and also detail oriented when it came to doing layers/textures.
But I know for next time if I was to get a hair cut again, it would be much better to ASK for less in the beginning and to cut more if needed while still in the chair... since I am still very unhappy about the inaccurate length that was cut from the start by my hair dresser since now I'm left with much shorter hair than what I would like (at least 2-3 inches above my chest area which is the length I wanted if instructions...
Read moreI absolutely do not trust getting my hair cut anywhere in NorCal. I've resulted to flying to SoCal and NYC to even do so, but Arty has brought my faith back to my hometown. In the midst of all these horrible hair salons, this place does not disappoint. I originally brought my brother here for his hair cut since I didn't need one at the time. It turns out, they did a pretty good job. Fast forward a couple months, and here I am. I hadn't gotten a hair cut in 2 months, and it was shaggy beyond means.
For $65, you get your hair cut, styling, shampoo, and a back massage. Not a bad way to spend an hour right? The only pain that I see is driving all the way to Japantown and paying for parking (they don't validate). While you wait your turn to get your hair cut, they treat you to a nice cup of coffee or tea. Small tidbit, but it makes me happy.
As far as the actual cut goes, the people here are really nice. They'll strike up a conversation with you, or if you don't like that, you can play with your iPhone all day as well. The stylists here only use scissors, so none of that buzz cut that you can get for $10. I had about 75% of my hair cut off, and damn it looked pretty decent! Clean cut, nice staff, and great atmosphere. What more can you ask for?
This is now my spot for hair cuts in NorCal. Nothing more,...
Read moreNote that this review is for bleaching and dying only, and that I’m sure cutting is a different category that might deserve more stars.
I bleached and dyed my hair from halfway down. I don’t have thick hair and still, it took 6 hours. It was one lady working on my hair although there usually should be an assistant. My hair was pulled so harshly it hurt a lot throughout, I was holding back tears multiple times, and despite telling my hairdresser multiple times to be more gentle it couldn’t be helped since there is no assistant. The hairdresser probably said sorry about 30 times in the duration and I felt bad for her since she worked so hard. But still, it was very unpleasant.
In addition, I did not know that the color I wanted wasn’t available until I was almost done bleaching. After everything was done, the final cost was $450
My suggestion for the hair salon would to be upfront about the time that would take (the original estimate given to me was 4 hours), and to confirm the dye color is available beforehand.
Unfortunately, I do not recommend this salon for bleaching...
