I live near Japantown so I come here quite a bit. I have restaurants in Japantown that I frequent like Hikari Sushi, Daeho, Umai Ramen House, or Nande-ya to name a few.
Today I wanted to try something new because why not? So I went to Kippu around 12:45 for lunch. This restaurant is the WORST restaurant in all of Japantown. Perhaps the worst restaurant that serves Japanese food. The ramen was overly salty you will definitely develop kidney stones...$16 for miso ramen that's as salty as the brine pools in the Mariana trench. $18 for their Orange blossom sushi roll with the palest, oldest, saddest, 1-hour away from expiration date salmon with the driest, NOT sushi rice I've ever seen. With the subpar quality of food in this restaurant, I feel it's my duty to give this 1 star rating. I would give 0 stars if I could.
I can't believe I had a bill that says $36+ for 2 dishes after taxes to food that's not even worth $0.01. I normally give a 10-15% tip but for Kippu I gave a $1 tip to just round off my bill to $37 to show my dissatisfaction.
And as others have said, the middle aged Asian male server in the restaurant is rude and will rush you to get out. There was this younger lady who brought the food to our tables and she seemed nice but I wouldn't be surprised if she quit.
I love sushi with salmon and eat it regularly. I have also been to Japan over a dozen times and have become familiar with the cuisine. How dare Kippu ruin the reputation of Japanese food. They need to get out of Japan Town ASAP.
Tomorrow I will return to Mensho Ramen so I can eat a proper bowl of ramen and get rid of the horrible memory and the disgusting aftertaste of eating at Kippu. Mensho Ramen is definitely the place to go and they're even in the...

As others stated, the management and staff can be extremely rude and pushy. Do not come here within a 30min - 1 hour before closing otherwise you will be harassed to pay them and leave a minute after receiving your food.
I paid a second visit here last Friday. First time was an extremely busy holiday weekend and I was pressured to pay after having my meal dropped off. I visited with 2 friends who were visiting the Bay area and looking to get dinner, one of whom only landed at SFO an hour earlier!
We dropped in at 8:30 pm. Our mistake. They close at 9, and you’d think if they were not ok with us sitting in, they could have just said that and we would have been fine. No, they allowed us to sit. One friend immediately went to the bathroom and not even did we get 1 min to look at the menu did the server come and ask “You ready to order??” And we said “No we are not..our friend is still in the restroom” and the server let us know we are the last to order because they leave at 9.
We finally got to order and got the food quickly. As soon as the food was dropped at the table, again, the check soon followed.
I didnt sign immediately because I was trying to eat and the manager came over to tell me to sign the check.
There was banging and noise from staff making their way out before the restaurant closed. We felt as though they would have locked us in.
Honestly the food and atmosphere were unmemorable since my experience was so sour.
They shouldn’t accept patrons after a certain time if they plan to kick people out. Do...
Read moreWow I can’t believe what I’ve just experienced here. I was going to give them 5 stars for the delicious fresh roll and tempura. But the ‘owner’ gets zero stars for being unbelievably rude and aggressive. He certainly doesn’t understand customer service, or was having a very bad night or possibly was on drugs, based on his level of aggression. His server made a mistake and he interrupted my interaction with her, he didn’t bother to listen to me (the customer) but just kept interrupting me. When his server admitted the mistake directly to him, because he wasn’t letting me explain, he didn’t apologize or offer a solution and continued to interrupt me, when I was trying to suggest a solution. He then told me to leave without resolution! Fortunately someone else, who may be his mother, stepped in and I left with a resolution, but shaken up that I had been treated so aggressively in an otherwise peaceful evening. The sushi chefs were pleasant, the server was pleasant but didn’t take down my order accurately. I wouldn’t usually write a negative review but am shocked and horrified that this person would treat customers this way. He was also very abrupt with 2 other customers while...
