My father required 24/7 care for dementia in a skilled nursing facility for two-and-a-half years, and I had an excellent experience with Institute on Aging. Whenever a caregiver could not make a shift, a replacement was quickly found. On the rare occasions when a caregiver was not providing adequate care, the manager quickly found another caregiver without my having to ask. This was important because I did not live close by and could not closely monitor the caregiving myself. Caregivers accompanied my father on occasional outings, and during one summer, caregivers were even provided to accompany him to a favorite vacation spot for a few days. There was excellent coordination between the staff at the skilled nursing facility and Institute on Aging, so I never had to worry about whether or not my father was receiving the high level of care that...
Read moreWe had hired Institute of Aging based on the recommendation of a friend. The caretakers also caused damage to the room that they stayed in (stains on the carpet that have not been able to be removed) and the "light house keeping" that the caretakers are supposed to provide has been found to be lacking when I have visited the home (floors were dirty, dishes were left in the sink, etc). I was then given a business card and told that this is how they practice outreach. When I called I got one person who sounded like they were in a wind tunnel and I was not going to begin while need needing vital information. I called right back on recommendation and I got an individual who wasnât trained on persons living with people who are denying their âmild cognitive impairmentâ even though the person has been begged to see a cognitive specialist for over TWO years. These call center workers are ill-trained volunteers and have the potential to send you all over San Francisco only to have these leads recommend the identical place you...
