I went on a Sunday night. Thank goodness my boyfriend and I showed up 15 minutes before opening, because there were already other people waiting. We had a big group, and I was worried the experience would not be good. I was totally wrong. Pros: The food here is an amazing value. When I say that, I don't mean it's cheap - it is a pretty high-quality sushi restaurant, and the prices reflect that. But the prices were reasonable considering just how fresh and tasty the food was. I could devour all of their rolls in a heartbeat, and I would drive an hour again just to taste the steak skewers and bacon-wrapped-scallop skewers. The tempura had a "cleanly fried" taste to it - hard to explain, but the oil didn't have any weird additives and clearly was fresh. Not only that, but the service was REALLY good considering that the entire restaurant was packed within the first 5 minutes. The amount of time we had to wait for more water, or extra ginger, was the amount of time you'd normally wait in any other restaurant. No idea how, but that's what happened. Maybe it was the small size and efficiency of the staff. They were ON IT. Cons: It's a tiny restaurant, and they don't take reservations. That means you NEED to show up 10-15 minutes before opening. Also, your ENTIRE party needs to be there to get seated, so if you have a large group make sure to herd those cats. Bottom Line: Definitely coming back. 5 stars,...
Read moreLast night the bf and I were craving sushi and chose Ebisu out of the endless list of 4 and 5-Yelp-star restaurants in the Inner Sunset (Funset!). As we passed the better-known Koo and eyed its fancy bar, we starting having second thoughts but trudged on through the blustery crap that was last night's weather.
There was a long wait for 8pm on a Tuesday, which we took as a good sign, and went to pick out a movie at Le Video during our wait. We got back at the right time and were seated at the bar. We giggled excitedly as we hungrily read through the massive menu.
We ended up ordering three rolls (Boston: my fav, Rainbow: good, #29: ehh, I think we had had too much tempura/shrimp by that point) and KOBE BEEF SASHIMI OMG it was so good. the bf, the former-vegetarian-of-12-years had a moment of doubt but his eyes quickly glazed over in happiness.
The chefs were amazingly friendly and offered great recommendations, and we happened to be seated next to a regular of ~20 years named Robert. He decided to order us a round of oysters, which we returned with a round of sake. Soon enough it was an hour past closing and we knew his life story.
In conclusion, the magic of Ebisu's sushi bar should not be...
Read moreI am quite angry with this restaurant. We had been going regularly to this restaurant and had 2 different rewards cards. On our previous trip about a month ago, The server offered to combine all the points onto one card, so we did. Today we went there and gave the server our rewards card which, by the way, had a cumulative $998 spent. So with today’s total of $121 we should have gotten a discount of $100 - a reward for having spent $1000 at this restaurant.
We were then told that these reward cards no longer work. I said I was very unhappy with this and she proceeded to tell me that it notification was on their online site. I said but those who come to the restaurant do not look online. She was apologetic but really this is unacceptable. They should have had a grace period for eliminating such a program that was in place for more than 10 years. She proceeded to tell me that there was some other new points system that if I register I would receive points. I am dismayed by this and will just not worry about point accumulation as they have now lost a...
