Update 2: A few of the large rolls costing 12$+ gave been skimpy on the fillings with a few pieces mainly being just rice with a bit of fish on top. Flavor still there but I wish the rolls weren’t so inconsistent. Update: One star removed after revisiting and trying the Cherry Blossom roll. The Koji (Sake Pickled Salmon) was next to inedible. The flavor of it permeated the avocado and rice in a most unpleasant way. Not sure if this is the intended taste but I would skip. I’ve tried some oddly pickled and aged foods but this came close to the Icelandic shark of which was an experience for my mouth but not one I would likely try again. Original review: 5/5 Fresh and oh so delicious melt in your mouth fish! About a 5 minute wait to sit at the sushi bar for 1 at lunch on a weekday. The restaurant was very busy. Quick and friendly service from the sushi chef. Complimentary tea if you ask for it. Probably won’t go back routinely for lunch since the bill was 29$ but looking forward to going back as a date night or special treat.

This restaurant has the same name as a Dallas-based restaurant. I accidentally purchased one of their gift cards online for my son to take his gf to their anniversary dinner, thinking it was the Dallas location. Once I realized my mistake, I called the restaurant multiple times to request a credit since we can never use a SF gift card. They said the manager would return my call, but the manager never did. I know this was my mistaken purchase but I would think a business owner with ethics would address and refund this knowing it could never be used. Shame on you! I read your reply and tried to email to get my refund but get a bounce back. Email address does not work.

See this $37 plate of the 'chef's special'? Look tasty? Think again- it came to my table very quickly- too quickly- followed by a long wait for my friend's order. I found out why they managed to bring my order so fast- the rice and the fish slices were *the same temperature*. How could this be? *It must have been prepared in advance, then popped in the frig till the right sucker came along.* Hey, if I want sushi where the rice and fish are the same temp I can get that at many grocery stores. In addition, they tried to seat us near the breezy door twice. Overall, we learned that Ebisu has contempt for its customers. Do you want to take a chance and see if that includes you?

I went on a Sunday night. Thank goodness my boyfriend and I showed up 15 minutes before opening, because there were already other people waiting. We had a big group, and I was worried the experience would not be good. I was totally wrong. Pros: The food here is an amazing value. When I say that, I don't mean it's cheap - it is a pretty high-quality sushi restaurant, and the prices reflect that. But the prices were reasonable considering just how fresh and tasty the food was. I could devour all of their rolls in a heartbeat, and I would drive an hour again just to taste the steak skewers and bacon-wrapped-scallop skewers. The tempura had a "cleanly fried" taste to it - hard to explain, but the oil didn't have any weird additives and clearly was fresh. Not only that, but the service was REALLY good considering that the entire restaurant was packed within the first 5 minutes. The amount of time we had to wait for more water, or extra ginger, was the amount of time you'd normally wait in any other restaurant. No idea how, but that's what happened. Maybe it was the small size and efficiency of the staff. They were ON IT. Cons: It's a tiny restaurant, and they don't take reservations. That means you NEED to show up 10-15 minutes before opening. Also, your ENTIRE party needs to be there to get seated, so if you have a large group make sure to herd those cats. Bottom Line: Definitely coming back. 5 stars,...

Last night the bf and I were craving sushi and chose Ebisu out of the endless list of 4 and 5-Yelp-star restaurants in the Inner Sunset (Funset!). As we passed the better-known Koo and eyed its fancy bar, we starting having second thoughts but trudged on through the blustery crap that was last night's weather.

There was a long wait for 8pm on a Tuesday, which we took as a good sign, and went to pick out a movie at Le Video during our wait. We got back at the right time and were seated at the bar. We giggled excitedly as we hungrily read through the massive menu.

We ended up ordering three rolls (Boston: my fav, Rainbow: good, #29: ehh, I think we had had too much tempura/shrimp by that point) and KOBE BEEF SASHIMI OMG it was so good. the bf, the former-vegetarian-of-12-years had a moment of doubt but his eyes quickly glazed over in happiness.

The chefs were amazingly friendly and offered great recommendations, and we happened to be seated next to a regular of ~20 years named Robert. He decided to order us a round of oysters, which we returned with a round of sake. Soon enough it was an hour past closing and we knew his life story.

In conclusion, the magic of Ebisu's sushi bar should not be...

I am quite angry with this restaurant. We had been going regularly to this restaurant and had 2 different rewards cards. On our previous trip about a month ago, The server offered to combine all the points onto one card, so we did. Today we went there and gave the server our rewards card which, by the way, had a cumulative $998 spent. So with today’s total of $121 we should have gotten a discount of $100 - a reward for having spent $1000 at this restaurant.

We were then told that these reward cards no longer work. I said I was very unhappy with this and she proceeded to tell me that it notification was on their online site. I said but those who come to the restaurant do not look online. She was apologetic but really this is unacceptable. They should have had a grace period for eliminating such a program that was in place for more than 10 years. She proceeded to tell me that there was some other new points system that if I register I would receive points. I am dismayed by this and will just not worry about point accumulation as they have now lost a...
