‼️Very burnt bread, Poor service & Hires Non-Citizens‼️ For the very long wait & super high price it would make sense for service to match the price & be great. I waited in a very long line out the door to get pastries & a loaf of sesame bread. As I was waiting, there was a lady on the other side of the counter & I motion to ask her a question. English was not her language so she just gave me that sorry I don’t speak English smile and gesturing, and I waited until I got to the cashier. Probably good to have folks who work at the front be able to speak a couple words of enough English to answer questions or at least be able to say, a phrase. But then are you hiring those who are not GC or even documented yet? With the line being out the door & only one cashier, I didn’t take time to ask questions about any of the baked goods - again for that price & wait time add another cashier. Cashier was fine nothing special & she would speak Spanish to the other lady to assist her. I picked out several baked items out of the extremely limited selection that was available. I’ve been to the original location and it was quite a large selection and this one just seems to offer only a few items. The items listed don’t offer detail on the menu or the name, & we don’t eat pork at all. And accidentally purchased a savory scone … had to throw it away after one nibble and a check on the Tartine website - it’s got pork. As for the other pastries, they were good, but not seven dollars apiece good - really not that level considering everything else. Finally the bread, which is obviously one of the items they’re quite known for. I tend to save something that has gluten in it for a special occasion only as it bothers me. I just tried a slice of the bread. It looks beautiful. It’s heavily crusted and slightly burnt which again is part of the Tartine style and what I like. However, having a bit of extra color and firmness or crispness to the crust of the bread is one thing, but this loaf just tasted super burnt. I tried another piece. Nope that’s very over burnt - very clear overall burnt flavor that unfortunately overpowers the rest of the bread, so not worth the $15 and definitely not worth having wasted a I’ll let myself have gluten today treat - end up spending $60 for a 5 pastries and one small loaf (had to toss that too). It appeared they only had a few loaves. Don’t think that’s the case though so I’m not sure if that is the usual hey if it’s over burnt send it out anyway or if that was just one of the few loaves of the sesame bread left & they decided to sell it no matter what.
I was takeout, so was not bothered about the Zero lack of seating or the fact that there were several people at tables who were camped out on their laptops. But a place that busy and at that price tag that high to let people use it as an office seems unfair to those who wanna actually sit down. Seems clean and well lighted though. We drove from SJ - such a waste. UPDATE: WOW just got the Most boilerplate standard “disgruntled customer” response from Tartine. To reply: No … my experience didn’t meet my expectations…. IT DID NOT MEET THE EXPECTATIONS YOU HAVE(and health dept) for edible non over burnt bread and clear ingredients labeling. And a place that is that price point can afford to hire American citizens or permanent residents. If you had service up at the front that could function, I’m sure I would’ve been able to not have to throw away part...

Located in the charming Inner Sunset neighborhood, this spot has quickly become one of my go-to's for a delightful pastry and coffee experience.Atmosphere: The vibe here is exactly what you'd expect from Tartine – bustling yet cozy. There's a lovely warmth from the ovens, and the aroma of freshly baked bread and pastries fills the air. While it can get busy, especially on weekends, the layout allows for a comfortable flow. I love grabbing a seat by the window to people-watch or settling into a corner with a good book. It's clean, well-lit, and has that perfect balance of rustic charm and modern efficiency.Food: Oh, the food! Where do I even begin? Their morning bun is legendary for a reason – perfectly caramelized, flaky, and just sweet enough. It's a must-try. I'm also a huge fan of their croissants, which are buttery, airy, and have that satisfying crisp. Beyond the pastries, their breads are, of course, exceptional. I recently tried their avocado toast with a perfectly poached egg, and it was a revelation – simple ingredients elevated by incredible bread. Their coffee program is also solid, offering a great complement to their baked goods.Service: The staff here are consistently friendly and efficient, even when the line stretches out the door. They move quickly, take orders accurately, and are always happy to answer questions about their offerings. It's clear they take pride in their work, and it makes for a pleasant experience every time.Overall: Tartine Inner Sunset is a true gem. Whether you're looking for a quick coffee and pastry, a delicious brunch, or just want to pick up a loaf of their incredible bread, you won't be disappointed. It's a bit of a splurge compared to your average coffee shop, but the quality and experience are well worth it. Highly recommend!Pro Tip: Go early on weekends to beat the rush, or be prepared for...
Read moreWe went early on a weekend (8-9 am), when lines/wait are minimal, but the space is still busy.
Tartine sets the stage for its crisp, clean, and refreshing ambience as you enter the porch. Walk further inside and it tantalizes your senses with aromas of buttery pastries, fresh coffee & espresso, colorful flowers on the tables, larger plants against the counter, and warm light streaming through one of several skylights.
After a quick stop to order at the counter (line moves efficiently), have a seat at one of teak patio tables. Soon a server will bring your order - whether it be melt-in-your-mouth pastries, perfectly seasoned eggs, or crisp-yet-tender salad.
The exterior of the morning bun is flaky, which embraces a moist & warm bread-like roll. It is buttery without being greasy, and flavorful without being overpowering. Specifically, cinnamon sugar is composed of approximately 90% sugar and 10% cinnamon, and there's ever-so-delicate orange rose water spritz.
The coddled eggs were delicious: similar to a poached egg. The runny yolk pairs well with the trout roe and chives, as it is soaked up by your za'atar toast.
Previously, we had ordered the less flavorful and slightly greasy egg sandwich.
The orange juice was good -- freshly squeezed with pulp.
To complete the refined hipster/yuppie ambience, all food and drinks are served in Heath ceramic tableware. Heath tiles also line the walls. The bathrooms even have P.F. candle company reed diffuser fo a delicately well balanced scent.
Overall, a delightful dining experience.
If price wasn't a factor, then I'd give Tartine Inner...
