First time visit eating at Pacific Catch.
While returning to our parked car, we decided to try it. Restaurant is easy to see with its large name on the restaurant, located on a corner across from the Golden Gate Park.
We were seated shortly after the greetings. Airy with high ceilings and large windows allowing sun light in from a lovely day in San Francisco, it had a modern decor.
We sat and waited a few minutes before the server came to take our orders.
I normally scan to see which tables have food vs. those without, which tells me we may have a a long or short wait time.
Several tables, nearby were filled with eating patrons. One next to us had a large party about 10 with couple of youths and mostly adults. Believe they were tourists; they spoke in a different language as they later prepared to leave after eating their meals.
The staff were friendly, took our orders not long after serving us water. Food arrived after some wait... it is not a fast food restaurant, therefore, one must be patient.
It was worth the wait. The food arrived and they looked fabulous! Husband ordered a large salad, came in a large wide flat bowl with salmon.
I ordered a soup and beef waygu burger. Every item including my husband's dish was delicious!
Only the soup seemed odd. I ordered a salmon chowder, yet not a piece was visible in the bowl. I could not taste it either. I asked my husband his opinion if he could detect any salmon. He did not see any...unlike clam chowder one can see and taste them in the soups.
Understand we eat salmon more often than other fish, even raw as a sashimi at home and restaurants. I know how it taste, smell and feel whenever I cook it. (As a youngster my Father took us fishing... I clean, scale and gut fish).
Finally I took the position to ask a staff walking by because our server was busy. He went back to tell our server. I explained it to her. She was not aware and went to inquire... and learned they forgot to add the salmon.
They rectified it by delivering a nice piece of grilled salmon on a plate. Curious I asked, is this how they normally prepare it; a bowl of soup and a separate slice of salmon on the side? (Never received a soup with fish on the side.)
The reply was, "no". They gave me a slice, explained it was more than the usual amount, to resolve the mistake of not adding pieces of salmon into the salmon chowder.
While I was not too upset I definitely formed an opinion of the restaurant of what created this scenario.
It took one staff, then our server going back and forth to the kitchen to fix this error, delaying my meal, interrupting my pleasantries with my husband while he ate his dish. I am not one to point out problems at a restaurant and he does not either or want me to bring up anything unless necessary... this one definitely perplexed me.
They offered and removed the soup from our bill.
Verdict: Would we come again to this...
Read moreDon't normally leave reviews but felt I had to leave one regarding the service and take out orders. Overall food was decent however the service and atmosphere from the staff was lackluster. When I first walked into the restaurant, 5 staff passed me, looked me in the eye then proceeded to ignore me as they helped other patrons. I was finally approached by a senior staff member who told me he couldn't process my order because they only had one kiosk. I waited for about 15 minutes before the waitress at the front finally took my order. She took my order then gave me my receipt and told me to wait for 30 minutes. I sat down at the table NEXT TO the check in station for the next 45 minutes without receiving a notification or reminder from the staff that my order was ready. I had to approach the waitress myself and remind her my order was ready even though I had been sitting in front of her for almost an hour. She then went to the kitchen and retrieved my order. Had I not reminded her I'm not sure if I would've gotten my food that night. In addition when I got home I wasn't surprised that they forgot the sauces and utensils with our order.
The worst part is that this isn't the first time. Awhile back, my family also dined at the chestnut location to which we received a similar experience.
I understand that this location is busy and it was amid the dinner rush. However there should be proper systems in place to properly process both take out and dine in options without forgetting customers exist....
Safe to say we will not be dining here...
Read moreJust had the worst experience. My wife & I went at 8:40 Friday 7/7. There were a few tables occupied but most were empty. We were seated, then left alone. After waiting more than 5 minutes with no one coming to our table, I got up and asked the host for someone to come assist us. A waitress came, apologized for not knowing she ‘had’ our table, and took our order. 2 taco plates & a bowl of soup. Simple order, we expected the soup would come quickly and we were hungry. It didn’t. After another 10 minutes with no one coming to the table, we noticed our waitress sitting at a table wrapping utensils in napkins. The host was at another table eating. I got up and went to the kitchen, where our soup was sitting on a counter. My wife followed me, saw the food, waitress and host, and we decided we were NOT a priority and we said we we’re leaving. The host grabbed the soup and handed it to the bartender, who was listening since there was no one at the bar, and he said ‘fine, then I’ll eat it.’ The waitress felt the need to add an unnecessarily insincere ’have a nice night.’ We live in the neighborhood, have eaten here over a dozen times and was never made to feel so unwelcome. We proceeded to Umma’s, a few doors south on 9th. Got seated, greeted and served in less than 10 minutes. We will go there again, and recommend Umma’s to others. Pacific Catch, maybe just a bad night?! Perhaps, but we won’t be back anytime soon to find out. There are too many restaurants in the neighborhood that understand service is why people go and return to...
