Massage of Santa Fe — Local services in Santa Fe

This is a long review, but very thorough. I had an excellent experience here and I wanted to go over everything that made it so pleasant.

This was the best massage experiences I’ve ever had. I’ve only gotten 3 professional massages before, to be fair, but I left this appointment feeling the most pain relief and relaxation I have ever felt. (And one of the massages I’ve received in the past was an authentic Vietnamese massage recommended to me by a local when I was visiting Vietnam.)

I came in with a lot of stiffness, soreness, and pain from moshing really hard all day for 4 days straight at a music festival, and could hardly move. I requested a 60 minute deep tissue massage, let them know where my pain points were, and they went to work. The pressure and symmetry was amazing, and upon leaving the appointment, I felt like I could actually move again. The relief was instant. I will say that they have the male masseuse there do the deep tissue massages, as they say he can provide more pressure and therapeutic relief, so be aware of that if you’re not comfortable with having a man massage you. I had never gotten a massage by a male masseuse before, and was a little nervous, but he did such a great job and was very professional and quickly, I did not care.

I also got the medicinal massage oil, which they said was from China (they are a Chinese-based practice, and offer Chinese candy at the end of your massage as well, which is a nice touch). It was a $20 up charge, which I wouldn’t normally do, but like I said, I was in a lot of pain, so I was willing to try it out. (My massage was $80, so my total was $100, but for the quality of this massage, I would say it was far worth it). They gave me some extra pain patches and instructions to get the most out of the oil’s effects, which felt a bit similar to icy-hot or tiger balm when applied.

The space is beautiful, elegant, professional, and relaxing, and the employees are very nice. There was a cute, thriving little garden outside the door when you arrive, and there were flowers on the bed in the room, which I thought was nice as well. Brenda (I believe she might be the owner) was especially welcoming and kind; I mentioned I had just moved to Santa Fe and she gave me a bunch of recommendations for places to check out. It seems like she treats her customers like friends! I even mentioned I work with plants and liked her garden, and she gave me 2 pots with flower cuttings from one of her plants that was in bloom. I am a bit conflicted about how to rate my experience here which is why I went with three stars. On one hand, it is very clear they are very good at what they do, which is Thai massage. Unfortunately, that is not the service I booked with them, which was a deep tissue massage. They advertise a slew of massage styles on their website, and with several reviews from chronic pain patients here, I trusted that they did in fact offer deep tissue style massages. Unfortunately that was not the case.

I pretty quickly realized that what I was getting wasn’t what I booked, when the masseuse I worked with did not ask me what areas needed attention or if there were any areas to avoid etc, something I have always been asked before at other massage locations. She did not speak English, which made it impossible for me to communicate these things of my own accord. I probably should have walked out then, but I was in so much pain I was willing to give it a go. Long story short, my troubled areas (head, neck, and shoulders) got some attention but not much, and the head and neck were clearly untrained and probably only happened because I pointed to them at the start of the massage. Honestly, it was probably a good thing the masseuse kept it pretty quick and light as it could very easily have gone very poorly for me otherwise, due to their lack of experience/training in the area. To summarize, I felt slightly better than when I went in but not much more than I could accomplish on my own.

On the other hand, her work on my back, especially my lower back and glutes was better than I had ever experienced before. She was not afraid of heavy pressure and worked very hard to achieve results. If I had gone after a series of heavy workouts, after a long day of skiing, or with back pain, I would probably have been absolutely delighted with the massage I received. I would be the first to recommend this place to anyone I knew who was in a “my whole body hurts from hard work,” situation.

However, advertising for deep tissue massage and not having such massages performed by someone trained, who knows how to work around/with difficult injuries is very dangerous for the customers. My injuries could have easily been exacerbated. Frankly, I could have found myself even more disabled than I currently am. I should have walked out as soon as I realized what was going on. In that sense, I cannot recommend massage of Santa Fe. I hope they stop advertising services they do not actually have in practice and instead solely highlight the services they do have...

Let me start with ... I WISH I COULD GIVE MASSAGE OF SANTA FE 10⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐'s!!!

About 5 months ago I was in horrible pain after starting a new job that requires LOTS of heavy lifting as well as TONS of physical activities every shift. And im talking 12 hour shifts. Immediately I researched local places near me. That's when I found Massage of Santa Fe, and boy am I so grateful. When I called, Brenda, the owner, answered and took me in the same day. I was welcomed so kindly with warm smiles and was asked if there was anything I needed before we started (like.. water. The bathroom.. etc.) And the atmosphere was beautiful,calming,peaceful and smelt wonderful! Then I was taken to a room that was even more zen🫶. Brenda, asked me what kind 9f massage I'd like, if I had any pain, and if I've had any surgeries. After exchanging information, I received the first of now many massages I've received from massage of Santa Fe. Now let me tell you, I SWARE, I haven't ever had a massage as good as this place provides before this. For the 1st time ever, has any masseuse been able to give me the pressure I asked for and actually achieved the pressure I wanted. And she found every spot in my body that needed attention without me even telling her the exact places. I also had never received the amazing complementaries I got in this massage EVER! AT ANY MASSAGE PLACE I'VE BEEN TO! I was stretched in the most amazing necessary ways. The pressure was the best I've ever had. She continued to check on me. I received hot rocks. And warm towels. The massage table was AMAZING and huge and had the softest comfiest sheets. And her hands just felt like they cared for me!after 90 minutes and we were finished, I received just as warm of a goodbye as the welcome. Greeted with a bottle of cold water and smiles. (And some really good candies🥰) and now I am a consistent costumer. And let me tell you, every massage by Brenda's staff has been just as amazing and wonderful as hers. And every massage from the welcome to the goodbye has been just as wonderful as the first. I promise you I'll never go anywhere else as long as massage of Santa Fe is here.
