Update to my initial review: the freezer aisle is back to being ADA compatible, with enough space for a wheelchair or walker to mostly get through now.
Unfortunately, I suggest avoiding this wonderful store from 3-4 pm during the school week. Elementary school students from across the street gang up in droves and roam around the store, yelling loudly and tearing into junk food like piranhas. I feel terrible for the staff who now have to police students, directing them to take off their backpacks and leave them at the front of the store, and having to ask students who are being rude and disruptive to leave the premises. The store would be best served developing a policy that children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult upon entering. I often see kids who look around 11 years old traipsing around unchaperoned. This lovely, eclectic neighborhood store should not have to contend with becoming a chaotic zoo teeming with children every school day.
Fabulous market with kind staff, a highly knowledgeable wine expert, a wonderful deli, and a large selection of international foods, but the frozen section has been comically overtaken by boxes, cards, and chip stands. Two people (even without their carts) can no longer pass each other in the aisle, and doors to the frozen section cannot be fully opened. This practice is not up to fire code or compliant with ADA law since people with wheelchairs cannot navigate these small spaces while opening the freezer doors, and there is a risk of the stands toppling over on folks in wheelchairs who are trying to...
Read moreI checked it out after church service on the way back. It looks old outside, yet pretty bright and new inside surprisingly.
This seems one of the faves of the locals. As a new resident here, I am trying to explore the surroundings and I happen to see this and its coupon in the mail.
The food quality is actually good, the display is pleasing, and the wine selection is addiction. I browse through it, and I have seen some amazing differences here such as bean sprout can be purchase based on the weight. That is unique and good as I always have throw away half away if I buy a full bag.
The only drawback is the prices are on the higher side especially for me who is trying to prepare for the upcoming inflation and possibly recession, I am watching my spending to save as much as I can for kids’ college and future weddings. But Santa Monicans are not affected by it as it seems, which is good.
The best part is the service. I just look at the meat for 2 seconds and 3 people ask me whether I need help, if I do, let them know right away. The service and courtesy is amazing, the best I have seen around town so far.
I do wish I have better economic status to feel nothing to buy here, but at this present moment, I...
Read moreI’ve been a customer at Bob’s Market for the last 10 years. Today the manager on site, Luis, approached me with my small dog (who has also shopped with me for 10 years) and told me that no dogs are allowed and that there is a sign outside stating so. His delivery was abrupt and rude, and he didn’t acknowledge how or why it had previously been acceptable and now it’s not. He repeated that there was a sign outside three times, like he was clearly frustrated with me for not understanding their overnight policy change… Then, for the remainder of my shopping experience, his associate followed me and stared at me - no smile or nod, just actually staring at me. You would think I was stealing or something by the way he was following me with my dog. Not really the friendly neighborhood market experience they claim to offer. This wasn’t my first time feeling uncomfortable while grocery shopping at Bob’s Market either, employees are always chilly and I guess Luis really sets the tone of the whole store. A smile and kinder delivery would go a long way. I work in customer service so I understand their position, but at the same time they...
