When you are not âpeopleâ enough!
This review is not about any mattress at Sit 'n Sleep, as I did not purchase one from them, nor will I ever after this negative experience. Instead, this review is about an extremely unprofessional employee at the Santa Monica location: 2828 Wilshire Blvd, Santa Monica, CA 90403. Unfortunately, I didn't catch his name, but I'll update this review if I find out.
I needed a new mattress, so I decided to visit this store to look around. An employee approached me and asked, âAre you here to see mattresses or buy one?â I replied that I needed to see some mattresses, to which he responded, âToday is our busiest time of the year, so I need to attend to people who actually want to buy a mattress.â He briefly showed me two mattresses and then walked away.
I noticed that he and the other employees were spending ample time assisting other customers, but none of them seemed willing to help me or answer my questions. The only difference I could see was that I was shopping alone, while the other customers were there as couples. As a single woman, I often feel uncomfortable visiting car dealerships or car repair shops alone, but I never expected this kind of treatment at a mattress store. Iâm not sure why they treated me this wayâmaybe because I said I was just looking? Was I supposed to buy the first mattress I saw without exploring my options?
Feeling unwelcome and uncomfortable, I left the store with unanswered questions. Later, I called back to inquire about one of the mattresses I saw. The same employee answered, and without letting me speak or addressing my question, he asked, âAre you the same woman who just left? Today is our busiest time of the year, and I have other âpeopleâ waiting for me and have to go.â Then he hung up.
Here are my recommendations:
If youâre a single woman shopping for a mattress, avoid this store or bring someone with you. If they ask whether youâre planning to buy, respond with a firm, âYes, sir.â
After this incident, I visited seven other stores, and all the salespeople I met were professional and respectful. Not a single one of them treated me the way this employee did at Sit 'n Sleep. What an unpleasant experienceâI guess I wasnât âpeopleâ...
Read moreI rarely write reviews - I'm only motivated enough when the service is amazingly good or amazingly bad. Happy to write this review because my experience at Sit 'n Sleep was phenomenal.
Sales Experience: It started with our sales person Robin - he really should called a bed guru not sales person. I haven't shopped for a mattress in over 10 years and my how the times have changed. Who knew mattress shopping had become so high-tech? The first thing Robin did was have us answer a few questions in the Bed Match system (do you snore, side sleeper, etc.) and then we laid on it while it analyzed things like our pressure points. After a few minutes it gives you a recommendation on the type of mattress that would be best for you. With that knowledge in hand, we were ready to try out mattresses! We tried out about 6 mattresses and found the perfect one. I think the whole process for us took just over an hour - which is fast when you're making an life impacting purchase. I know, sounds dramatic but if you can't sleep well, it really does affect the rest of your life. Loved the experience with Robin, bed guru, - go ask for him.
Delivery and Set-up: The delivery guys, Felipe and Byron, were fantastic! They showed up on time, were friendly and I swear they had the bed set-up in 10 minutes. Easiest set-up and delivery I've ever experienced.
And finally "The Bed": Back from my travels, I've now had a chance to sleep in the bed for a whole week. The mattress is amazing, I wake up feeling refreshed but my favorite part is that we got an adjustable base. It was a splurge for us but so worth it. I just read that new research shows sleeping at a 10 to 30 degree incline helps improve glymphatic drainage (basically helps clear your brain of cellular waste). Maybe this is another reason why I wake up feeling good.
If you're looking a new mattress, I highly recommend Robin and Sit 'n Sleep, and splurging on an...
Read moreI had an absolutely exceptional experience at Sit 'n Sleep in Santa Monica, all thanks to Shel. From the moment I walked through the door, Shel's attentive and friendly approach immediately put me at ease. He took the time to listen to my needs without making me feel pressured or overwhelmed. I mentioned that I was looking for a bed for my son, and instead of steering me toward the more expensive options, Shel thoughtfully guided me to beds that were not only affordable but also on sale. His priority was clearly helping me find the best solution, not just making a sale. What really impressed me was his genuine care in ensuring I got the best deal possible. When I found a better bed that suited our needs even more, Shel went above and beyond to make sure I got the best price. His approach was refreshingly honest and straightforward â no pushy sales tactics, just a true focus on customer satisfaction. I was so pleased with the deal that I ended up purchasing two beds instead of one! To top it all off, Shel arranged for next-day delivery, which was already fantastic, but they arrived even earlier the very next morning! The entire experience, from start to finish, exceeded my expectations. I didn't receive any compensation to write this review â I just wanted to share how genuinely happy I was with the service I received. If you're shopping at Sit 'n Sleep in Santa Monica, do yourself a favor and ask for Shel. Heâll make the whole process smooth, enjoyable, and stress-free. Thank you, Shel, for turning what could have been a stressful experience into such a...
