Stopped in to buy my son a Christmas gift a couple of weeks ago and picked up a booster box of Japanese 151 for $140. I fully expect to pay higher prices than I would from reputable online stores but when I got home and checked prices, I was not okay with the fact that the exact same product was available from REPUTABLE sellers online for $105 (multiple sources, all with 10,000+ five-star reviews).

A 10-15% markup is fine with me and I’m totally okay paying that to support a local business. But… 35%?!?!

I’m willing to come back and shop in the future and even pay a premium to support a local business, but I won’t buy anything that’s marked up more than 10-15%. And, I’m not the kind of person to negotiate - I hate negotiating with a fiery passion. I just leave.

My boyfriend and I used to be regulars here, spent thousands of dollars here on Pokemon. While everything was severely overpriced (2-3x market price), we bit the bullet because the employees are friendly and I love supporting small businesses. Us being regulars and it being a small business, we were disappointed to notice we never got any sales, freebies, or discounts with the amount of money we were spending here (and I mean THOUSANDS every other week!) I stopped in this place while in Sarasota for work and wasn't expecting it to be a very successful visit. I thought that it would just be sports cards w/ just a little Pokemon, but boy was I wrong! This card shop has to have one of the best selections of rare sealed product in every language, reasonably priced slabs and a diverse selection of rare, common and bulk singles in the entire state of Florida. The owner Jay was kind enough to greet me and chat a bit on his way out and Erica was very patient while I rummaged through all of their display cases, bulk bins and binders.
