While Bonaventure is considered the cemetery celebrity, Laurel Grove is arguably the local's favorite. Its also the only true Victorian Era cemetery as it was sold out by 1900. The array of mausoleums is unparalleled locally as well as the architectural variety of overall monuments and there is more decorative iron work here than contained in the nearby city as a whole. It seems to have more to do with the standing Historic District as well in terms of personalities buried here and surviving buildings in town. The cast includes some 1500 Civil.War soldiers, multiple Union and Confederate Officers and really all in Savannah's only Civil War Military Section. For many the best element is the solace as one is quite often the only visitor over the many acres. Be aware that on weekends there is no real bathroom and office is closed. A quick online search will reflect what everyone else is saying -- you won’t regret it! Laurel Grove North is far less trespassed than most tourist areas in Savannah, and therefore, a real gem. The decaying, sculptural and delicate beauty of it all is otherworldly and truly breathtaking. It is a peaceful, mesmerizing place. You could walk around for hours only wishing you had more time, so make it count! Take a tour with someone who can share Savannah's greatest stories, introduce you to her most charming characters, and leave you planning your next trip back! If you like to travel where few others have gone and learn from the best, look no further.

I have ancestors buried here and wasn't quite sure where the graves were. I was able to find them on the kiosk. Beautiful cemetery.
