Edit: Awesome, the owner responded to my review! Always a good sign. They didn't really seem to understand my issue though.
My original review directly below. If the person responding to reviews wasn't so sensitive and instead empathetic this could be easily resolved. So sad, but strangebird is way better anyways.
Bull Street Taco has good food, but is not a good value.
Why? -Charging for something that is usually complimentary is not a good value.
-Charging the same price for an item that is substituted is not a good value.
With this in mind, I will be changing my rating. Maybe next time they'll have this ironed out or have someone who is willing to listen to a customer.
Original review below: I both love and hate Bull Street Taco.
The Tacos are great. Really good, juicy cuts of meat. Ambiance is good, fantastic vibes and on a cool evening the patio is as close to heaven as you can hope to be in Savannah. Staff is all pretty good and helpful as they can be.
But the value isn't there.
The first time I stopped in, the server stopped by the table and took our drink order, and then asked if we wanted "Chips for the table", which yeah, always sounds good and is pretty standard at most Taco\Mexican spots. We got the bill and it was $7, and if I can be honest, the portion was pretty small.
But that's ok. We should have studied the menu. Assumption on my part.
Then the other day I stopped in for a few tacos. I don't like to drink, so I ordered a coke. The server brought me a single canned coke, 12 OZ. Not a problem, a lot of places in town will serve Coke this way. When they brought the bill, it was still billed as a Mexicoke. $3.50 is pretty pricey for a can of Soda. I asked the server if it was a Mexicoke and they said "Well no, we're having trouble getting them from the distributors", which I can understand. I then asked if it was the same price as a Mexicoke they said "Oh, yeah. We're just substituting them for now" which led to my final question of "Well is it the same cost for a can of coke as it is for a Mexicoke?" to which they just shrugged.
On most days, there is a line out the door and the patio practically spills out on the street, so I realize I'm an outlier here. But it's just a shame that a few things would could keep a good restaurant from...
Read moreThe food was good but here's what happened. My son and I arrived at 1130am. We were met by a young lady, we told her that there will be 8 adults and 2 small children that will require high chairs. They told us the can't seat us till everyone shows and I explained it's all my children and husband's and they will be here because we just had 2 baptism. Young girl said rules are rules and told us to seat at the bar that we couldn't wait up front. I expressed I don't want to wait at bar but I'll wait near it. So 10 minutes later all my children show up and they said gives us a minute. 10 minutes go by and they proceeded to tell us that our place was ready outside, I said we have 2 young kids, the weather is nasty and we didn't request outside, she tells us but it's covered, it will be fine, I said no it will not. So with grief they gave us a place indoors. The server came and asked about drinks. Took half the table and my granddaughter was in that round, 10 minutes later they finally gave the first round, had to ask about the apple juice for my granddaughter twice. Did the second round of drinks and same thing as the first round. When we ordered our meals the waitress instructed us to pass the menus down and she'll pick. Them up at the end of the table. When we ordered our second round of drinks she never picked up empties so the table got crowded so we ended up stacking empties at end if seating. The one picture is of how they stand around and talk amongst themselves instead of tending to there tables. Half the girls there were dressed like twin peaks the other half like a slumber party. I travel for a living and eat out 4 nights a week. I usually give places a second chance but I'm up in the air about this one. The server looked so disheveled that even the service was mediocre at best , on a 238 tab I still...
Read moreOur waiter was initially helpful with answering questions concerning what the popular dishes were and offering suggestions. Our food was made as ordered and came out fast. Everything was lukewarm which may be their standard, we accepted the food as it was.
Unfortunately after finishing our meal and waiting over 15 minutes for the Waiter to return so that we could receive our bill to pay, we waited over 20 additional minutes for someone to acknowledge/respond to me gesturing for assistance. A waitress behind the counter saw me standing, I asked her to assist me she looked away and said something to someone else behind the counter and kept standing looking straight ahead. Although at this point I was standing up, still waiting, no one assisted.!5 minutes later she finally came toward where I was standing at my table, which was near the door, because other diners arrived and needed to be seated. At this time I said to her, I am trying to get my bill to pay so that we can leave. She responds, ok I’ll let your Server know he’s on the other side assisting another table. When the waiter reappeared finally he walked over to someone else and took their order, still not coming to our table where we had been waiting to leave for over 25 minutes at this point. The same waitress who ignored my requests and obvious need of assistance bought the bill to us and placed it on the table, a few minutes later our waiter came back to take the payment.
This is completely unacceptable for any business, not sure what their issue was and why the waiter went missing for so long or why others working in the restaurant chose to completely ignore someone in obvious need of assistance, but I did not appreciate it and will never patronize this...
