Strange bird indeed 🤔

We took a seat and ordered our drinks, we waited for our server to come back to put our food order in but she didn't! After 20 minutes we had to catch the eye of the male server who was obviously new. He took our order then it was obvious after other people got their food he hadn't put ours in. Nobody told us but from the servers talking amongst themselves you could tell what had happened. We didn't mind so much because we could tell he was new and these things happen. We received our side of potatos and that was it for 15 mins until our full order came out. No apology, nothing.

Damn ......I wanted to love this place but the chicken sandwich was truly awful! Dripping with oil, no chicken taste and the toppings on it just didn't work. One of the worst things I've eaten. I can't even explain how disgusting it was. My husband had the smokehouse plate and said it was good but since we were on a date night it made him feel bad my meal was disgusting. Really ruined our night.

Then came the bill.....$75....$75? They don't tell you the side of potatoes are $8! $8 for essentially 1 potato that we got as a starter ( complete joke) I'm all for paying good money for good food but I can't help feeling this was an absolute rip off. It's a diner, nothing more and to pay those prices was disgraceful.

It's a cute place. Queso was delicious! But wow I am surprised at the good reviews because this was bad. Bad service, bad food, bad price!

I felt sorry for the new guy he was obviously doing his best if only the woman server had helped him instead of spending 20 mins filling containers instead of...

I thought I was walking into a diner.

My wife and I were pleasantly surprised by Strange Bird.

We came in at the tail end of a packed house and enjoyed a few dishes.

Service - everyone was kind and attentive. Our server was funny and mindful of our experience even in this casual environment and seemed :gasp: happy to be there, which is wild for the service industry in modern times.

Chips and guacamole - guacamole is the perfect level of salty with balanced citrus and spice. Small portion, and maybe a little too smooth.

Mexican rice - delightful, nice addition of crema to add some savoriness.

Refried butter beans - fyi reader, butter beans, and lima beans are the same thing, I had to google. Here is where I probably disagreed with the direction of the food as it was more reminiscent of mashed potatoes than refried beans. The fried corn kernels probably didn't help

Chorizo burrito - great blend of flavors aided by some really amazing in-house salsa choices.

Overall, it's really great.

Am I being sensitive about the butter beans with the 4 stars instead of 5?

Absolutely.

Will be back, will still not understand that choice.

Also, please roast the please roast the potatoes instead of fry them. It's an easy pick up, and they'll taste better and be healthier for your guests. Also also, you can serve them with little toothpicks and that...

First impressions were pretty good. Had read the positive reviews so was looking forward to eating there. The space itself is cool, a retro diner with a handful of booths and counter seating. The service started well, glasses of water as soon as we sat down. We ordered a Coke and a beer and asked for a little more time to look through the menu. We waited another 20 minutes to be asked if we were ready and only after we caught the attention of one of the servers. Having ordered the chicken sandwich and pork smokehouse plate we waited some more. And waited. The server who took our order eventually came back over, said that there had been a mistake in submitting it and that it would be a little while longer. We didn't mind too much as the diner vibe was pretty cool. However, when the food arrived the chicken was greasy and over cooked. The pork was good but over powered by the pickled carrots and cabbage. We were also given a side of potatoes. Those were decent if a little overcooked. The biggest surprise came with the bill. Over $70 for 2 people. $8 for a side of potatoes and $14 for a piece of over cooked chicken with mayo in a bun. We paid, left and won't be back. Hugely...

This place was phenomenal! The food was so crazy good. We got the churro, which I've never been a fan of, but this was melt in your mouth amazingness. I didn't like the chocolate sauce they had on the side (on its own it tasted like creamed hot chocolate, so the sauce alone was really nice. I just personally didn't like it paired with the churro but others might like a mild chocolate with their churro). However, I loved the creamy caramel sauce they also gave with it (two dipping sauce options with the churro). We also had the Birria Burger, a mojo pork taco, and one of their daily specials which was a Bulgolgi Smash burger. The taco came with a little escabeche that was made with carrots and cauliflower and pickled dressing that would rival any southern coleslaw. The wedged potatos that came with the Bulgolgi burger were fried to perfect. They had what tasted like a homemade mayonnaise that was a flawless pairing. Every element was so flavorful. I would definitely recommend and I hope we can go again before we leave Savannah.
