I brought in an integrated amplifier whose power capacitors had gone bad. In attempting to diagnose it myself, one of the power wires had become detached within the unit. A simple job, but I wanted it done right, and I wanted to avoid the time and inconvenience of doing it myself. The good Dr. quoted me $190 for the job. I asked him for assurances that the $190 I’d be paying would get the amp in working order, security that if his work did not fix the problem he would not be due the $190. I asked for clarity on which capacitors would be used, to ensure that when I got home and opened it up there would be no surprises such as me finding out $190 was paid for trash capacitors. In short, I asked for transparency in precisely what services I would be paying for and precisely what our agreement was committing him to. He said he was not willing to provide these basic assurances and suggested I go elsewhere.
I picked up the amp the next day, got home, and unbelievably there were parts missing. Simple mistakes that even a novice wouldn’t make. One of the electrical shielding was gone, and the only means of attaching the amp’s cover to the amp’s body, 2 screws, were missing. Also, one of the boards was slightly warped and its edges were browned as if singed by heat. Pretty sure it wasn’t like that before dropping it off at Dr. Jays, but I (doubtfully) could’ve overlooked it and had no proof, so it’s something I did not bring it up with him. He had me drive back over to Schertz so he could check it out.
After waiting 20 mins in the parking lot he comes back out with the missing parts. I asked him, since he had made such a bonehead mistake requiring me to needlessly use an hour of my valuable time and gas for him to correct, if he could maybe make amends by simply telling me where the power wire is supposed to attach. It is by no surprise the pathetic little man declined. It’s clear the man is a swindler who grinds out a living by concealing the fact he provides very little value at greatly overstated expense, all with absolute zero assurance what he does will result in the service he was hired for. Unless you like the idea of gambling with your time and your money, go elsewhere.
Regarding his reply below You are a shameless, loathsome liar. 1) Never did I say I wanted to do the repairs myself. I know the exact parts and processes required to change the alternator in my car, but I still hire a mechanic to do it. Your trade is no secret friend; you're acting like some paranoid magician. 2) I requested a contract, that if your repairs did not solve the buzz that you would EITHER do the additional necessary repairs for no additional charge, OR return my amp in its original condition at zero charge. This way I don't risk paying you $190 for the pleasure of enduring your conversation. 3) Of course I'm going to open it up afterwards and review what you did. A 90 day warranty with you is laughable. 4) That is electrical shielding, not a dust shield, you idiot. 5) I never threatened to list a bad review online. Showing me where a single wire connects was the absolute least you owed me after your unbusiness-like and incompetent dealings with me, and was the commonly decent thing for you to do. But you're not decent. You are a LIAR and a sniveling cheat, and what goes around comes around.
Regarding his, now, edited reply below You continue to lie saying I threatened to leave bad reviews if you did not show me where the power wire was supposed to be soldered to. I think that goes far in showing the kind of person you are. My review is to advise people to pay for an inspection with a more reputable business rather than taking one of your free inspections because you wont reveal what is wrong with the system or what repairs you will be making, you're shady on your cost of labor and parts, you offer zero assurance the repairs you propose will actually fix the problem, and, heck, you can't even be trusted to put the thing back...
Read moreThis post is to describe the exceptional service I received from Forum TV Repair. I had to purchase a new lamp for my 72-inch Samsung DLP TV. Within a few days the TV emitted a burning plastic smell and a ticking sound. I contacted Forum TV Repair and the owner, Jay, came to my home. He immediately found that the new lamp had melted and fused itself to the inside chassis of the TV. He gave me a quote for the cost to repair the TV and was honest enough to tell me I would be better off buying a new TV. The next day Jay contacted me and said he came up with a cheaper, possible way to fix my TV and would like to give it a try. I thought why not...what have I got to lose? By him contacting me, this told me that he was concerned enough to brainstorm and come up with an innovative idea. He also said that he couldn't see me discarding an otherwise perfect TV.The next day he picked up the TV chassis and within a week he had my TV working again...new lamp and all! Since then it's been working like a charm! In addition, through his advice I contacted the company that sold me the defective lamp and was refunded the cost of the lamp AND in addition the cost of the TV repair. Jay even offered to speak with the company if needed. If you, or anyone you know, are ever in the need for TV repair, I highly recommend Forum TV Repair. Nowadays it's hard to find an honest, trustworthy, and...
Read moreJay at Forum Stereo & TV Repair helped me bring back to life my Dad’s old stereo. Piece by piece of my Dad’s old stereo setup Jay diagnosed, cleaned, calibrated and repaired (when needed) my father’s 1970’s era Kenwood KR-9400 (AM/FM Receiver Amplifier), JVC SEA Control System SEA-10 Equalizer, Sansui RA-700 Reverb, Sony TC-204SD Cassette Player, and Dual Type CS 1226 Turntable.
I never felt like I was ever being ripped off or upsold on parts or labor. All of Forum Stereo & TV’s prices were reasonable and fair. Jay would call me every step of the way to stay in communication of what was going on and how much it would be.
When my turntable desperately needed a new needle cartridge, Jay located a period correct new old stock (NOS) one that did the trick. It is nice to have my Dad’s old stereo setup back in tip top shape. Going through my Dad’s old vinyl and cassette album collection gives me nostalgia for another time.
I will never bring any of my electronics (new or vintage) to anybody but Jay at Forum Stereo & TV Repair. He has earned a customer for life. My vintage stereo is rockin’ now! Tell the neighbors that Led Zeppelin and are I are sorry...
