Cannon Driveway and Patios - Paving and Masonry Contractor — Local services in Scotch Plains

I hired Cannon to extend my patio as the price was competitive and they could do the job sooner rather than later. That should have been a red flag. I warned the workers multiple times about my irrigation lines and to be careful not to damage them. Yes...they were damaged and it cost me $503 to repair two punctures. I made them sign a statement noting that they will repay me for the cost to fix the system. After numerous text messages, they ultimately reimbursed me for this cost which was commendable (but honestly, it was the right thing to do). The patio looks nice however it isnt level as I live on a hill. Obviously they did not use a level. When I put my patio table on the new extension, it is severely slanted downhill. When you sit at the table, you feel as if your chair is going to fall backwards. I complained and the owner came by to evaluate the installation and was loud, confrontational and unprofessional with me. He agreed that his young son, who supervised the job, installed it the incorrect way and to fix and level it, the patio would have to be disassembled, built up further and redone. The owner said he would only charge me labor to install the patio correctly. I was taken aback as I did not feel that I should have to pay anything additional to install the patio correctly as that should have been done correctly the first time. This was their mistake and it should be their problem not mine. In conclusion, I wasn’t going to pay them more money and I now have a slanted patio. I would not recommend this company to anyone. Not only do I question their business integrity but their quality of work. Look elsewhere…even if you have to wait a few...

So, first of all Eddie told us that the whole project should only take about a week because he's not the kind of person that starts one job, then leaves to start another and never finishes the first job. That was the first lie. Then he told us they would start on a Monday, but they never showed up. (They did that a lot) The crew broke down our driveway within two days, and started to level out the sand/stone/dirt under the driveway. Keyword: started. They never finished. They left and didn't come back for about two and a half WEEKS. Our driveway was ready to be paved this whole time. Out of about eight houses that he had done, he started on our house first yet he paved about 4 other driveways before he finally got around to ours. The day he finished paving our driveway he came to collect the money, Even though he hadn't leveled the dirt that he put in our backyard like our contract said. Eddie got his money and said he would come back, but never came back to finish fixing the dirt in the backyard. We eventually got tired of having our backyard look like a mess, so we fixed it ourselves which we shouldn't have had to do since we paid him to do it for us. Throughout this whole thing, he used our backyard to store his equipment, and every time they would grab something they left the fence gate open. This led to our dog getting let out, and running in the street around our neighborhood one day. Also, since the driveway has been finished it has rained and that allows us to see exactly how sloppy of a job they did. Amazing!!! We had several quotes to have the driveway redone and to have drainage put in. Jimmy was simply fantastic from the moment we met him and he was so unbelievably knowledgeable about what our actual issue was with regards to why our garage kept flooding every time it rained regardless of how heavy the rain was. He was fair and honest from the very beginning and we immediately hired him for this project. The crew - what an outstanding crew he has very responsive and respectful and friendly they did an amazing job and took the time to explain the pitch of the drain and tested the drain to ensure the water would flow correctly (very impressive) Larry (the son) was incredible such a nice kid very polite professional and hard working getting right in and helping the crew do such a remarkable job. We were so impressed by how efficient and stress free this project was that we immediately hired them again to complete a walkway project that we have been putting off for over 4 years.
