A Great “View” of Comics on the Green, Scranton

Imagine stepping into a neighborhood treasure that’s been spinning comic book magic since 1992. That’s Comics on the Green, perched on North Washington Avenue in downtown Scranton. It’s long been the beating heart of the region’s comic-loving community—an award-winning, full-service shop where fans both casual and hardcore unite.

What Makes It Special: • Decades of Stories Dive into thousands of back issues, spanning from the 1930s to modern-day hot releases—a verified paradise for collectors chasing golden-age gems or rare back-number treasures. Plus, they’re an authorized CGC dealer, so you might even send your own comics off for grading while you browse. • Layered Collections Besides new comics, the shelves are packed with graphic novels, toys, statues, posters, T‑shirts, collectible models, trading cards, and comic supplies. They’ve built a pop culture museum in retail form. • Subscription Club & Events Sign up for their subscription service and snag new issues early, each week. Their calendar likely includes community favorites like Free Comic Book Day, too. • Top-Tier Service Staff here don’t just stock comics—they curate them. Yelp reviewers are unanimous: friendly, helpful, and truly engaged. One fan says they offer selections “beyond the regular capes you’d expect,” and another loves getting lost in the “huge selection” amid “kind” staff. • Local Love, Lasting Legacy This isn’t just a store—it’s a Scranton institution. Voted Best Comic Shop in Northeastern PA by Electric City Magazine year after year (from 2000 to 2017), and now carrying recognitions like the Eisner-nominated “Spirit of Retailing” award. • Conveniently Located Just a few blocks from Steamtown Mall and the lackawanna County Courthouse, it’s easy to find and hard to leave once you’re in.

⸻

The Experience: What You’ll Feel • Wander and Discover Whether you’re perusing back-issue bins or checking out the latest graphic novel, it’s “such a joy to visit”—a place to linger, browse, and stumble into unexpected treasures. • Collectors’ Dream With CGC access, subscriptions, and a diverse stock that spans multiple genres and eras, this shop is where treasure hunting meets genuine expertise. • Community Hub It’s not just a store—it’s where comic lovers gather. Residents tip their hats to the staff, the vibe, and the nostalgic, collectible-filled aisles.

⸻

I’m a comic book enthusiast who enjoys visiting comic book shops around the United States. I browsed through the back issue and viewed the graded comics. Overall the prices for back issues are above market value. The graded books are highly marked up at Comics on The Green.

I heard Dave loose his composure with a customer. The customer said there is 133 books in the Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man series that completes volume one.

Dave copped an attitude with the guy. Dave responded with, I should know, I do this for a living. Dave acted like this in front of his customers. It was obvious, Dave was trying to embarrass this guy.

I need respond to Dave’s condescending comment. Dave, Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man Vol 1 (1979–1987). The entire run had 133 issues. Dave you said there was 300 issues. Dave seriously know your facts before try to embarrass a customer.

Dave, no need to play the victim. Your back issues have significant flaws on the binding and covers. It does not matter your 30 plus year reputation if you behave like that to a customer.

I will not return back...

I've been a customer of Comics on the Green since I moved to the area in 2007. Hands down one of the best shops I've visited since I started reading comics over 25 years ago. The shop is well organized, the staff knowledgeable and friendly, and everyone goes out of their way to help customers find exactly what they want (and sometimes books customers didn't even know they wanted yet!).

I can't recommend this shop highly enough - over the years I've been everything from a casual customer to someone with a heavy weekly pull list. They've never let me down and treat everyone like they're the only customer in the store, even when it's a crowded Wednesday.

Excellent selection of back issues, graphic novels, and of course all the latest single issues. They also have a very good collectibles area, though the primary focus is comics.

Whether you are a dedicated collector, casual comics fan, or looking to find something new to read, you will feel at home at Comics...

The best comic shop in Scranton Wilkes Barre area. Staff is awesome and kind. The selection of books is fantastic. Many comic shops are dark and smell weird. This place is clean and bright. Family friendly. They do tons of events and Dave has an uncanny ability to remember your name. When I moved away for 5 years they shipped my comics to me and always took care of me. They do not have public bathrooms. If your in Scranton get your comics at the green!

Very cool shop, and friendly shop owner. Stopped in with my cousins to check things out, and made some great purchases! Had no idea I'd find some comic books that will make great gifts! Lots to see here; check it out. My younger cousin tells me it's important to know the shop keeps the comics that have extras in them, like codes to unlock goodies, are kept in protective sleeves o prevent someone nabbing the goods. 👍
