Bailey-Boushay House — Local services in Seattle

My partner is here, ALS. He’s had some really great experiences with staff there and some really poor ones. A lot of facilities won’t take ALS patients. I understand and I think they are better set up for end stage cancer. Etc in the longer term/end of life care part. They were very generous in allowing me to spend entire weeks there with him, an accommodation we really appreciated. Recently another administration/Director has taken over and word has it that they are cutting staff hours and some of the great staff are wanting to leave. They took my partner during Covid from. California when no one else would or could, and as I said there are some wonderful people there. The recent situation has deteriorated to him yelling for help for hours in the middle of the night without answer and staff telling him to wait for day shift to not lay in his own waste. I also experienced an incident where they refused to get him out of bed so I (me!) could feed him because they were busy feeding others. This went on for hours, they walked away from me begging for someone to get him up, and he ended up not eating that night. I also had to pressure them for a cough assist machine when he had Covid so he did not choke to death- and it was clearly indicted but adjunct hospital staff did not “have time”. The case manager there, Grant is a wonder to behold and has been so helpful. We will all be meeting soon and hopefully find some solutions. We do not have cash for the sort of places that ALS patients with limitless resources can access, and home care is not a question any longer - impossible. Do better BBH,...

The day program is great. They make sure that pretty much every staff member knows your name...even if it's been weeks or months since they've seen you, you walk into the "Big Room" and the staff all welcomes you and knows your name. The nurses are great and they are so helpful. Not feeling well on a Sunday afternoon, you can go in and see a nurse and they will help you out. The case managers are great, too. Very helpful and they will check in with you by phone if you don't show up for meds each week...some people might find that invasive, but when I was home sick with the flu for over a week with no one to help me, it was nice to get a call from my case worker to make sure I was okay. There are activities, showers, laundry facility, nap room and 3 meals a day...with a dinner size hot meal for lunch. They are now open from 6:30 am til 4 pm (except Weds when it closes at 2 pm for a weekly staff meeting). Great place, great staff. Highly...
