Warning about Carpet Liquidators, Seattle location on 4th Ave across from Costco
Just wanted to give a warning before anyone wants to do business with Carpet Liquidators for specialized work beyond just installing carpet or flooring of any type. This review is an account of a customer experience of Carpet Liquidators and not the poster of the review. I chose to work with Carpet Liquidators on a project that involved using self-leveling concrete. The scope of work to be done was to resolve a problem with the original floor not being level so someone who is a professional in this line of work was needed The 1st problem was that the person in charge of the job made a bad mix/pour exiting the front room. This self-leveling lightweight concrete ended up being soft and did not harden. After showing photos to the salesperson and owner of Carpet Liquidators and after calling and telling the main person that does this type of work with this product about the bad pour/mix, he told me to call the manufacturer of the self-leveling concrete which I didn’t feel was my job to do. He did the work and should account for all the responsibilities. Their bad attitude towards me, the paying customer was very upsetting. Management said the installer will remove and replace the light weigh concrete. They had to come back and do another pour to make a spot level. The 2nd problem was that I told the installer I’d like the new vinyl planks that I purchased to run East and West, he told me no, they should run North and South. I consulted with several people who said it didn’t matter which direction it ran; I would end up with the same amount of waste. I decided that I would put on a sealer on the self-leveling concrete myself and not the installer, I told him 6 times I would do this. The installer told me it would take 4 gallons by his calculations, He also suggested that I roll it on North and South then a coat East and West, then North and South again. After hearing his suggestions, I took the time to research the proper way to apply this sealer and it only took 2 gallons. There was a significant cost difference between 2 and 4 gallons for this sealer. After a few weeks went by I noticed a section by the kitchen had cracked and lifted up ¼ inch. I then called the main installer and told him about what I found and he said that he needed to call his boss. 2 hours later I got a call from their General Manager that the owner of Carpet Liquidators said they will pull off the job because they can’t make me happy. All I wanted was for the job to be done right. This job went bad due to the poor workmanship that was done by the installer and their bad attitude from their only person that does this kind of work. CL Management says he’s the next best thing to apple pie and they stand behind him even when the job is botched and they try to put the blame on the customer.
The estimate for this job was $3000.00 in the beginning and accelerated to $5000.00 with all the return visits from their installer etc and also with purchasing more material, including vinyl plank flooring. Due to their measurement estimate for the vinyl plank flooring I was left with 5 extra boxes. You have to account for some extra or waste on a job but 5 extra boxes was beyond normal overage. Due to all the issues surrounding my working with Carpet Liquidators I contracted with another installer to install the flooring. After several in-person visits and several phone conversations with the Salesperson I was refunded some of the balance owing. I would not recommend Carpet Liquidators to anyone who needs specialized work done. I would seek out another vendor or tradesperson who has more experience, better communication skills and willingness to work with the customer and respect how they want the job done.
Update with photos 12/3/24-Photos show the poor workmanship. Bad pours, not level, not drying, soft, rough not smooth pours, kitchen area cracked and lifted up etc. Review will only allow so many characters but bottom line is to be aware of who does...
Read moreWent in to buy carpet and installation for a stairway. 13 stairs. When, I had been watching install videos on youtube, it takes about 3 minutes per stair for guys to install carpet. When, I pointed this out and said that their price came to $18.50 per stair, he just shrugged. This would be approximately $384 per hour. That was more than I paid my divorce lawyer. So, I took that as they didn't want to do the installation. Realize this whole time I'm trying to engage with the salesperson. And getting nothing back at all. It's like it is a big bother for him to talk to me and answer questions. He points at the wall and says look at anything leaning against the wall. There is not another customer in the place. But, that is the last I saw of him until I dragged a roll of carpet to the desk. Then, he adds on the amount of carpet pad "I will need for the stairs" for $51. I haul the carpet to the car he had dropped the roll of carpet pad on the loading deck. I'm thinking good grief, that's a lot of carpet pad, but he's the expert right? So, away I go, I do the install. I use 1/10th of the carpet pad he had sold me. So, I call them and ask if I can GIVE them the largely unused roll of pad back so it doesn't go into landfill. I'm talking to some different guy on the phone and he says he wants to call back after he finds my invoice. I'm in the shower and the phone rings and the guy who sold me the carpet leaves a message. Somehow, it got communicated that I had not used the carpet pad roll and wanted to return it. And he was leaving a message explaining how they really didn't want to return my money for the carpet pad blah blah. So, even if I hadn't used the pad, they still would not even have taken it as a return! I call him and explain, I didn't want money back, I was trying to keep it out of landfill. I probably should have asked why he sold me 10 times what I needed. But, I'm too nice. Well, that changed everything! "Oh, in that case bring it back drop it off". This whole thing was a...
Read moreThey may have a large selection of carpet and friendly staff in the store but whoever they hire a contract out install the carpet are absolutely careless. They came over to install carpet at my home and literally nicked every wall they possibly could on the way to the floor in the bedrooms to install the carpet. I just got my home repainted and the paint was dry but still curing in every corner around the doorway around the stairs and trimming in the closet in the bedrooms were affected. Paint with chipped trimmings were scratched overall I had to get my painter to do touch up all over again around the house it was very frustrating for everyone. On top of that they had a child tagging along to help probably no older than six or eight years of age that was running his hands along the walls. I was cringing because that was new paint which was still curing.
On top of that, four days later when I go to the back of the house where they pulled into pull out the carpet in their truck, I find there is loose carpet littered EVERYWHERE in the courtyard. I have a loose carpet in my neighbors yard I have this carpet blown every which direction after four days since their installation. Overall the workers had a very careless attitude I just wanted to get the job done and be out of there with no regards to the environment to my neighbors to my property or the home they’re installing in.
I understand that there will be some damage because corporate is labor-intensive. I understand there will be some mess because installing carpet can be messy, but the degree and scale of damage to the walls and trimming is something I was not expecting.
I would highly caution anyone getting the carpet installed by the carpet liquidators. You’re better off buying the carpet from here and installing it by someone else is a little bit more professional,...
