Five Below — Local services in Shakopee

There was three employees, one who seemed to be a manager watching me and my boyfriend who is a person of color Check out at self checkout. Instead of doing their job they were just standing there chatting with each other. These three employees legit stood there and watched us check out, then as we were going to leave they continued to chat and block the exit. My boyfriend and I went around them trying not to be rude and Interrupt their conversation when one of the employees followed us to the other side, stopped me and asked to see my receipt. At first I went to grab my receipt but then I told her no and to check her cameras or check me out herself next time. The fact that THREE employees were standing there talking but didn’t check us out THEN asked to see our receipt and check our bag is not only disrespectful but ILLEGAL. Anyone who comes here please note that after you purchase your items it is illegal for them to check you without consent and you have the right to refuse a search. This is not Costco, no one shopping here signed anything consenting to be searched. Edit: They no longer accept EBT, despite previously doing so when asked why fiance got a rude response from the employee. We loved coming here to get cute little affordable decor for our apartment but sadly we will not be coming back anymore. The new store manager is running the place into the ground. I'll be surprised if they last another year. The Party City was better.

I love the nice things you can get here, however you're treated like a thief as soon as you enter the place. Self Checkout that you can't do yourself? Just put in a regular register at that point. Only one person 'helping' to check people out so you have to wait in a line when everyone could just be doing it themselves in the six or so other spots. If it's due to theft issues then you should hire more people to keep an eye on your store, not make every single customer at your store feel like they're being accused of being a thief. I am absolutely disgusted and upset by how we were treated like thieves. After paying for our items we were stopped by the store associate who was standing in front of the entrance asking to see our receipt. After checking the receipt she then proceeded to check inside the shopping bag that my son was holding, without asking for permission. I asked what this was about. She said it’s for security reasons. Then another associate came and said that too many kids are in the store so they had to check bags. This girl was extremely rude with a terrible attitude. If You guys have concerns of people stealing then ring customers items at the cash register instead of self checkout. Remove self checkout if y’all don’t trust people of color.
