It's been a while since I was at the Michael's on Shawnee Mission Parkway, but I was pleasantly surprised on this visit.
While gathering supplies for a project, I had been to two other craft/hobby stores in the area with little luck. Michaels had the biggest selection by far of acrylic hobby paints, and I was able to get the color varieties I needed.
I was approached twice to ask if I was finding everything. The second time, I did need help finding a couple of paint brushes. The associate walked me to the section and helped me look for the specific brushes. When we couldn't find one of the items I was after, she searched her handheld for inventory and found that another location carried the brush. She asked if there was anything else I needed, then helped with that item as well.
Once I got to registers, I found more friendly associates there. All staff that I encountered were friendly, helpful and, as strange as it sounds to notice this, seemingly happy! I'll definitely visit this Michael's first for my next...
Read moreExcellent selection of craft goods here, and great, friendly service from staff. My only caution would be that the frame shop could be better cared for. It seems some more care for packaging, handling, and transport of their items here would go a long way toward keeping this section in top shape.
So other than this, the rest of the store is amazingly well kept up, and is a reliable place to browse and pick up craft goods. I will definitely come back, though do be careful to check framing goods over carefully before making a purchase or leaving the store...

She said I can order it online for pickup in store and get a discount, but if I shop in store I don’t get a discount. Seems like they don’t want you in their store.
There is also a marked difference between providing customer service at the self checkout, and hovering to watch that I scanned everything. Claimed it was unintentional does not change how it made me feel as an honest shopper.
After making my purchase I was informed that they would honor the online deals. I ended up returning everything and left without anything I came for.
The combination of invasive “customer service” practices inconsistent and misleading pricing has led to me spending my...
