Sash Group Design Remodel — Local services in Shawnee

Purchased brushed granite countertops from Alex at Sash Granite & Stone. I experienced poor communication and poor installation. He provided an estimate based on measurements I provided and I authorized him to cut the countertops. I received a call approximately a week later to schedule installation. It was not until AFTER installation did he mention the additional $1200 difference in his measurement and the initial estimate. You would think that a difference of $1200 would be worth mentioning prior to cutting and installation scheduling. Regarding Installation - The quality of the countertop seams was terrible, they weren’t level and were very visible. When you ran your hand across the seams you could feel a height difference between the 2 pieces of granite. Alex came out to inspect and stated that there was basically nothing that he could do to fix the issues (that his installers caused) on brushed granite. A reputable company would have offered to replace a poor quality product they installed. Lastly, I noticed that water was not beading up on the countertop. Which lead me to suspect that they had not sealed the countertop. Sure enough I purchased some granite sealer and applied it….. now water droplets bead up. Would definitely not use or recommend Sash...

We hired Alex to construct a new deck. His bid was very competitive - and all his reviews online seemed great.

We asked for wire railing, sent photos of what we wanted - and what we got was a shoddy version, hastily done. It’s like his team forgot how to measure. Almost every post had the wire holes drilled in the wrong places, so the wires looked uneven all the way around.

He stated he was using cedar, and instead, we got southern yellow pine. It’s stamped right on the lumber, so I’m not sure how he thought he’d get that one past us. He used 4x4 posts which started to warp terribly a month after installation.

Worst of all, when we complained about the quality (after his team attempted to fix their mistakes twice) and declined to pay the final $500 of the invoice, Alex became irate and threatening over text message to my wife. Cursing, threatening to come to the house and destroy the deck. She considered contacting the police, and was very reluctant to allow this review to be posted as we wouldn’t put it past him to retaliate in some manner.

Use them at your own risk - and hope that you don’t have any...

We had a good overall experience with Sash Group. We love our new kitchen! There was a mix of refacing and new cabinets for our kitchen project. Alex was professional, polite and a solid communicator. My husband and I were very pleased with Alex’s suggestion to extend the height of our cabinets to the ceiling. This made a huge difference in the overall look of the remodel. We didn’t even know that could be done, it was an unexpected idea we wouldn’t have thought of.

There were minor hiccups here and there, which is expected and can cause delays. We had to remind ourselves the folks working on the project have multiple jobs going at once. They were not always on time, but did get the tasks completed mostly on schedule. We were living at the home during the reno. There was a decent amount of clean up at the end of each day to feel like we could “live” in the space during construction.

We are planning our bathrooms to be remodel next year and most likely will plan to use Sash group again. Also, Alex has a good group of folks working for him who are also professional, kind and...
