To start off with, my best friend and I visit Ohio once every year for the holidays - specifically Thanksgiving - and we stop by this nerd store during every visit. Our last year visit wasn’t as bad as this one. The staff member who helped us back then was actually quite friendly and sociable from what I remembered and I had hoped they were still working here. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case as a new face we didn’t recognize was there once we visited this year again as I’m writing this (Nov 24, 2024). Anyway, my friend and I walked inside the store to not only be greeted at all but have gotten a couple of rude ass remarks by the associate (or manager) working there. Reg flag #1. I simply asked kindly if there was a deal going on with their Pokémon plushies as we were looking to buy a few souvenirs (a bundle of our fav plushies) while in Ohio for the holidays and this miserable, “face-tattooed” employee shut us off immediately with basically a no and we are selling at full retail price plus shipping costs plus tax - while the prices there were exceptionally higher than most retail prices but ok, whatever. I get that times are tough and money is tight right now and it’s during the holidays but they were not in the slightest bit nice or considerate about it.
Moreover, once we grabbed a few plushies we really liked from the selection, we hung around the cash wrap counter for a good 10 mins (with no other customers around) and waited until this man (who was trying to look busy and couldn’t stop what he was doing to assist us) finally said - checking out?! - (of course, we are. Why else would we be standing around the front of the register) but we said yes. He finally checks us out and hands me back my credit card in such a weird way.. (like he was playing a card game and pulls out a card in between his fingers and hands it to me). Another red flag.
To finish this review off, he asks if I wanted a receipt with my order. I kindly said yes please and he doesn’t print it off the bat.. another red flag and kept getting my number wrong consistently for the e-digital receipt so I NEVER got it. Worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. I was even looking to purchase more cute Pokemon plushies but now I think I want to take my business elsewhere. Idk why they have such a team of jerks and I agree with most of the other reviews about the pricing. You can get much better prices online or even in other select stores. Don’t waste your time or money here. Sad to say but Mr. Magic...
Read moreAwesome shop! Great selection, great atmosphere, and a real treat to shop around every time I go. But since the summer I have noticed prices going up and I think the owners are letting the prices on Pokemon TCG get to their heads a little bit. I understand inflation is rampant right now but you can get booster boxes at other retailers for half what Mr Magic is charging. If you shop for individual items and single packs, prices are more reasonable but sometimes I'm noticing a market up of 30-50% on packs or single cards. Any japanese products just forget it. Just go online. I noticed on one of the booster boxes the price went from $85/box to $100, then $125, and now $150/box in the span of 1 month despite retail pricing for that box still ranging from $75-$90. Another thing I've noticed starting to happen recently is self-made products like lottery packs and lottery tins. In the lottery packs for example, they advertise the chance to win a high value pack like Pokemon Jungle. This would be fine if Mr Magic didn't raise their sticker prices on older packs like 20% after starting this lottery to make them appear more expensive for the lottery. Prior to the lottery, packs were priced right at market value. This comes off like they are trying to pry on customers who might fall victim to FOMO or not know what it is they are buying. This turned me off as a customer for any more high value purchases. I also notice I am often stuck waiting at the counter to checkout for a long time while staff chat amongst themselves from across the room. Some of them are rude.
In closing, these critiques required me to be very critical of Mr Magic and look for things to nit pick about. I am still appreciative to have such an awesome local card shop to visit. Overall if you are looking for a local card shop to support this is the one and I encourage everyone to go...

I first stopped into this shop last month on a random Friday evening, I wanted to check out the Pokémon selection. I looked for a few minutes while one of the employees monitored from a distance not saying much but said if I needed something let them know. Extremely high prices I couldn’t justify buying not one thing. On my way out after not purchasing anything I heard one of them along with another customer make a sly remark about how I didn’t b anything (ehh whatever I let it go not trying to fight some nerds right?)
Second time I went in was Sunday January 14th 2024 (the day I’m writing this). I entered the store, only one employee working. Not a hi, how’s it going, acknowledgement that I walked in, nothing. There was one customer checking out with him so I didn’t think much of it, until I continued to look through a glass case for over 10 minutes with still not a Hi, anything I can help you find? How’s it going? Nothing. Employee just sat down in the back messing cards completely ignoring the fact there’s a customer in front of them.
I’m giving this store a 1 star rating because not only are there prices about twice as high as they should be, they have also proved to be stuck up, snobs and quite frankly rude. I will not be back And I will be sure to not recommend...
